Scott Speed, the Red Bull Golden Boy who lost the ARCA RE/MAX Series Championship by wrecking himself as part of a blatant retaliation against Ricky Stenhouse Jr., told reporters after the incident "You can't fix stupid."
Maybe Dieter Mateschitz and Jay Fry should listen to their "phenom." If they do, they will likely reconsider their decision to put him into the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
After all, how stupid was it to not let Stenhouse pass early in the season finale at Toledo Speedway? How stupid, and selfish, was it to not give up the spot, run the race and win a championship?
How stupid was it to not realize that Stenhouse, and at least five cars directly behind Stenhouse, were a good half second a lap faster?
Speedo - remember F1? You couldn't even score a championship point? Maybe a series championship would have looked good on your resume?
So maybe an ARCA Championship is not what Scott Speed felt he needed. Maybe it wasn't important to him.
Wonder what ESR Team Owner Eddie Sharp thinks about Speedo's decision to wreck two good racecars, and throw away the chance to win the ARCA RE/MAX Series Owners Championship?
Or how about crew chief Patrick Donahue? Donahue had the unenviable task of babysitting Speed throughout the year, only to have all that hard work washed away with one selfish, egocentric decision.
Championships are hard to come by, in any sport, or any league. Generally, there's only one per year, per league.
Opportunity missed.
The cause? Stupidity..
Speedo was right. You can't fix stupid.
