Nextel Cup driver Scott Wimmer has decided to abandon his appeal of a driving while impaired conviction stemming from his arrest after a wreck near his home last winter.
The driver of Bill Davis Racing's No. 22 Dodges in NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series made a short court appearance Thursday, the News & Record of Greensboro, N.C., reported.
The conviction, in June, will now stand.
Wimmer was charged with DWI and failure to stop at the scene of an accident after the Jan. 31 crash of a truck owned by Bill Davis Racing.
He got what amounted to unsupervised probation for one year.
Police in High Point, N.C., said they found Wimmer hiding in a bedroom at his home after the wrecked truck was discovered nearby.
