Rep. Seaquist attempted to backpeddle, big-time, after comments about a new track being built in his WA district incited a huge number of NASCAR fans to protest his idiocy. Initially, he talked about how undesirable the NASCAR community would be to have as neighbors "with their junky cars in the front yard," etc. I had to laugh at his "amended" statement:

“I was going after the International Speedway Corporation,” the Democrat said. “That’s who I had in mind. It’s my own fault I wasn’t clear enough what I was saying and I apologize to anybody who did take offense. But my concerns are solely about the track corporation, and that’s because they’re trying to come out here, build a track, make a lot of money and leave the taxpayers in the dirt.”

Couldn't agree more about ISC, but then again ... he really wasn't talking about ISC until he realized that NASCAR fans actually can afford long-distance carriers, and aren't afraid to dial his number, lol ...

Man, this guy is a true politician. Like all politicians, they think that they can change what they said by telling what they really meant. However, they usually say what they really mean the first time. I was one of those fans who did write him.

So, I wonder if he feels the same way about Microsoft? I seriously doubt it, but maybe he just doesn't like capitalism. Afterall, he's is a Democrat.

I couldn't agree more! So glad to hear that you wrote to him ... if he'd forgotten his democratic roots (ha), he's remembering them now.

Whether he's a race fan or not is immaterial to me, as he did what so many politicians do -- entirely underestimated a huge demographic's collective intelligence, while also showcasing his own ignorance. Just makes you shake your head, as they never seem to learn, and yet ... they're still elected every term. Voter apathy at work.

(And, I must apologize for starting this thread when another one was already going. I'm a new member and simply didn't see it -- hope everyone will forgive me!)

I had to chuckle at your Microsoft comment ... if it's capitalism he's against, then he would be against NASCAR and ISC (and any other large conglomerate). And, just thinking about the millions of dollars a racing venue brings to a district -- whew. (Jackson County, here in MI? I can't even imagine how economically depressed it'd be without MIS, even though some local residents still have a fit about roads, traffic, etc. Of course, grin ... the others just put out "park here for $X" signs and count it as a more profitable weekend than if they'd had a yard sale, lol ...)

Nice to meet you, and Happy Race Weekend!

Nice to meet you as well. I wrote to him and said that I was glad that he would help to prevent his state from making the huge revenues that racing brings to the area and that would possibly allow other places in my area to gain a date. I also mentioned that I'm sure those fans of the Seahawks were probably wine drinkers and that they probably don't sell enough beer there in Washington to even make money.

Thank you! It's nice to see a TL fan -- I sure miss his calm, confident presence out there very week. Hope you had a great weekend!

lol ... what a perfect comment! In fact, I would love to read the mail (and hear the voicemails) that man received after both statements! It seems that every account of a fan response I've heard or read has intelligent thought mingled with at least one comment that makes me chuckle out loud -- I just love race fans!! (At least we love us, grin ...)

Thanks. Come back and post often.

Aw, shucks, grin ... you're so sweet. Thank you. Just noticed the Davey line at the bottom of your post, too ... another true, class act who was hell on wheels. Miss him like crazy, and always will. Just like I will Dale.

I often wonder what those two would say about "today's" nascar ... yet, on the other hand? Part of me is glad they're not here to see some of it!

You mean he still has more than one fan??????

 running from kellogs:eek:

LOL!!! Indeed, he does, if you mean TL!

And then there's Shrub, from whom a LOT of guys should be runnin', if you're talkin' about runnin' from Tony, er ... Kellogg's ...

lol

J/K ... JG did a nice job yesterday, and I hope he's on a comeback swing ... however I sometimes lose my patience with him, grin ...

I am talking about my friend Kelloggstl5fan. I am not afraid of Tony Stewart. or Tony the Tiger. But she is another thing.
JG did do pretty good yesterday.
Welcome to the board and come back often and post.

A Washington lawmaker who erroneously called Richard Petty a drunk driver has apologized to the seven-time NASCAR champion.

Petty, who is helping NASCAR with its efforts to build a track in Washington state, was surprised when House Speaker Frank Chopp began apologizing for referring to Petty as "that guy who got picked up for a DUI."

"I didn't know what he was apologizing for, because I hadn't read the paper," Petty said. Saturday while at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. "When I walked out the door, I said, 'What's he apologizing for?' Then they started going through all that, the different stuff he said.

"I said, 'I'm glad you didn't tell me what he really said, because I might have went off on him if I had known what he really said.' "

Petty has never been convicted of drunk driving, and Petty Enterprises has never associated with beer or other alcohol-related sponsors. The team does not compete in the Busch Series because of its opposition to alcohol.
