second place pays more than a win, at pocono

15k for being a past champion maybe, or maybe Jr paid 15k for that hot dog wrapper that found its' way on Brad's car and they deducted that. but really that does seem unusual

Something to do with RED'S being on the car this week maybe? Thats just odd.

It happens every couple of years or so. In this case it was probably Champion appearance money and #2 led the most laps too.
Yes, surprised people don't know about this yet.

NASCAR's prize money is rarely completely perfectly descending throughout the whole field. You get bonuses for being a past champion, leading the most laps, etc. etc. They have done this since the old days.

He and his team won engine builder of the race, the green flag restart award, and the break in the race award. Jr.'s team only won the problem solver of the race. That'd be my guess.

I would finish 40th every week if I got paid 100K every race.
It's called start & park. There used to be competition for that spot but the the last time I noticed, just one car missed the race.

Wow , it wouldn't happen in any other sport where a player making less than the team superstar scores the game winner ...wait.....yes it would . In fact , if I'm not mistaken , it happens in EVERY other sport . CHANGE THE RULE !!

Brian's thinking this over....

I have never seen second place pay more than a win, I know there is a convoluted way drivers get winnings, but I have never seen that before. I also think there is a problem when second place pays more, regardless if even a start and park team won.

Miller pays better than Mountain Dew?... or Nation Guard or whoever was on Jr's car this week...

Wow, then Johnson must be getting **** loads of money considering he's Mr. Six Pack.

history of the world is correct not sure which part, I guess us old farts are good for something around here!!

Total winnings are a complicated mixture of sponsor deals along with race and past performance. Brad didn't win more money than Jr. based upon finishing position - apparently Brad has a better package deal. If Brad had won he still would have gotten more money than Jr. Besides, with the championship hinging upon wins now more than ever it is silly to throw away a win in order to "win more money" - throw away championship millions for $15k??

i would think all purse money in from sponsored incentive awards through nascar, and nothing from drivers' contracts or obligations, or car sponsors.
