Hmmm, some of you might not have been around when the Golden Boy went from Busch to Cup. There was a big clamor over whether or not Jeff Gordon was ready for the big time. It was bad enough that Chevy took him from Ford, but he just simply wasn't ready for a seat in the big time.
One thing I've learned from all the years I've been watching this sport is that there is a huge difference between racing in the lower circuits and racing a Cup car. I've seen guys who didn't do squat in a Busch car or not much success, move up to a Cup car and do wonders. Anyone remember how well Jimmie Johnson did in the Busch series? Then I've seen Busch Champs fail to succeed in the Cup series.
I don't know much about Joey Lagano, but I do know that he has talent. The sooner he starts in the top series, the sooner it will be that he learns the ins and outs and will win. Gone are the days of having to earn a good ride and yes, these days drivers have to show something right away or they will fade into the sunset. But unlike what faced Casey Atwood, Lagano will be in a much better car.
