CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- NASCAR chief executive Brian France said in court documents that his former wife spent a ''staggering'' amount of his fortune on her family and friends. Megan France said her former husband spent little time with their two children and became verbally abusive when he didn't get his way.
Voluminous court documents unsealed Wednesday revealed new details about the couple's bitter second divorce, years after the contentious 2008 breakup. France's lawyers had fought for years to keep the records confidential.
France married the Charlotte woman twice and they divorced twice. Their first marriage lasted from 2001 to 2004. They married again in 2005 and the second divorce was finalized in 2008.
Several news organizations fought to unseal the documents, arguing those were public records, and a North Carolina appeals court last year agreed. So on Wednesday, 3,000 pages of documents were released, including dozens of court motions, depositions and emails.
According to statements in open court, the couple's 2008 separation agreement included paying Megan France $9 million, alimony of $32,000 a month for 10 years and $10,000 a month in child support.
Telephone messages left by The Associated Press with the law firms representing each weren't immediately returned Wednesday.
A NASCAR spokesman told The AP on Wednesday evening that the organization doesn't comment on lawsuits.
The unsealed records showed Brian France is wealthy.
A 2005 financial statement included in the court documents show he had $564 million in total assets - including stock and real estate - and that he was likely to inherit ''substantial wealth from his parents,'' which could exceed $1 billion. Founded by his grandfather, NASCAR is a multibillion dollar business and one of the most popular sports in the world.
But the records also show Brian France continued to fight after he agreed to the deal with his former wife.
Megan said she was the primary caregiver for their twin children born in 2006.
She said in the records that she was trying to create a stable home for them in Charlotte, while France spent most of his time in Daytona Beach, Fla., the headquarters for NASCAR.
''Brian has demanded that I make the children available whenever and wherever he desires,'' she said in a March 2, 2011 affidavit. ''He expects me and the children to be at his 'beck and call' regardless of the specific terms of the agreement.''
She said that when she doesn't agree, he takes actions to ''punish me,'' including withholding money.
In one case, court records claim Brian France failed to pay $52,000 in governess expenses from August 2008 through February 2009. He also failed to give her $3 million that she was due on Jan. 1, 2009, according to the records.
''Brian becomes verbally abusive when I will not follow his dictates...I believe Brian is continuing to try to punish me for not being willing to change the terms we agreed to in the agreement because he is now unhappy with them,'' she said in the documents.
But France, in a Sept. 27, 2008, email to Megan told her he was unhappy with the way she spent money.
He said in the court documents that she spent a staggering amount of money over the years on her friends and family.
The documents also indicated that France, who has remarried, had hired a private investigator to look into his former wife's whereabouts.
He also claimed in the documents that she violated terms of their confidentiality agreement by talking to their friends about the settlement and making disparaging remarks about him.

I really don't care about anyone else's personal life , mines hard enough to keep track of.(With the possible exception of George Jones and Tammy Wynette) They still going at it?

Tabloid stuff imo that makes me feel like a eavesdropper.
Unless someone is physically abused and a guilty party needs to be prosecuted I see no need for third party intervention or knowledge. I dont want or need to know.

Testimony also needs to be veiwed as alledged as in a he said, she said context. We didnt live within the four walls and a collection of legal notes that were built on emotion and collecting or keeping previously shared assets is skewed at best.

Regardless of thoughts on France or his former wife I think they are entitled to some privacy. I would hope for the same coutesy if needed.

So Brians ex is a gold digger and he is an ass. Nothing new about any of that. I mean why would anybody marry him except for his money anyway? No wonder tickets for races are so high.

I can't comprehend a court saying the public has a right to see these documents........but since we can, Brian sounds like a control freak. As long as the children are being cared for properly, she can spend her alimony any way she wants.

Agreed, FB. What has been accomplished by releasing these documents --- easing the obsessive curiosity of the media? I don't consider this any of my business.

I agree that the public has no business sticking their noses into the Frances personal affairs and this particular story is also biased towards the wife, she said this, she said that, she said the other, like it is all gospel because she said it.
Also this statement in the story "He said in the court documents that she spent a staggering amount of money over the years on her friends and family" was not about her spending alimony money but wasting large amounts of money during their marriages.
I am not defending him because frankly I don't care about them one way or the other but it would be nice for a change if the so called journalists would give a fair and concise view of events instead of distorting them one way or the other, but I realize I'm not in wonderland so it wont happen. :D

There must have been something they liked about each other...they were married twice. I will bet that there was fault on both sides.

It's all personal taste but my wife says Brian France is, and I quote "About as bland as a bologna sandwich at a Ruth's Chris Steak House" which I believe gets her point across pretty good.

I personally don't think this is and or should be public or debated by myself. I came to this site to talk about racing. JMHO

It probably should not be public but because of who its about its funny to me. I mean who can honestly say they like a dictator like Brian France? I simply cannot stand the guy and his henchmen.

Not to offend anybody here who may be in that situation here, but I've always thought it was weird when a couple gets divorced and then remarried.

I think it's pretty weird myself. One of my brothers did that once and they have been married about 30 years this time, though. They are pretty strange people, but they get along better with each other than they would with anybody else.

Wow 9million for 3 years?!?!?! holy crap thats 8000 a day,.......imagine the high class hooker(s) you could hire each day and be cheaper than that? And people think I'm nuts being an eternal bachelor. But on side note, Boy can't let things go, loves to kick and scream in the fight. Wants to get his way all the time it seems, this could explain Denny's penalty when he sorta mentioned the Gen 6 car there.

Then choose your threads wisely grasshopper.
I will choose more wisely master:rolleyes:. From the looks of things a mod. has chosen more wisely and moved this thread. LOL Now I don't have to see it on the racing board. :whoopee:( All Good)
