NASCAR Reinstates Driver Aaron Fike: NASCAR has reinstated [former Truck Series] driver Aaron Fike upon his successful completion of NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy Road to Recovery Program. Fike had been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR July 11, 2007 for actions detrimental to stock car racing.(NASCAR Integrated Marketing Communications)(8-21-2012)

Aaron Fike can return to racing, NASCAR says. The trick for him will be finding a ride.

I wish him well and I hope he stays clean.

I think he was caught with heroin, so he's lucky to get a second chance.

Yep. Shooting heroin.

Hard to feel good about a heroin addict........only an idiot would go down that road.

Yea but it takes a man to come back from it.

The former Camping World Truck Series driver had been suspended three years before, in 2007, after getting arrested while preparing to shoot up heroin in the parking lot of an Ohio amusement park.

He just might get a ride or 2 through Tom DeLoach, but I don't see how he could have a racing career.

His dad is from around my area has a lot of property. He was bank rolling the truck rides before and I'm sure he will do so again if he can work a deal with somebody. I've heard a lot of stories about the guy back on his worst days from other racers in my area. Hope he can stay clean.

I am all for 2nd chances, too bad only the rich or family connected get such a second chance.
A 2nd one that few ever get at all let alone twice.

A pet peeve of mine, I know you got to be have money to go racing, the financial business side of racing is a necessity. Wanting a world were talent is the biggest criteria is just a fantasy dream.

But if the File kid is door to door with a born poor boy, I will be rooting for the one that doesn't have daddy's money. It isn't Fikes fault for having money, but my thought won't change.

I'm guessing he doesn't have too much of a racing career after 5 years. You can't fix stupid.
I wish somebody would point out a person, any person, that hasnt done something really stupid, not taking heroin or robbing a bank or commiting any felony exactly, but something just plain stupid. After 68 years I still havent met anyone that hasnt. Ever drank too much and woke up with two ton tessie, ever told a person twice your size that you were gonna kick their butt, I havent either and neither have I done drugs but Ive done a lot of other stupid things and so has everybody else. If he is sincere and makes it, which I very much hope he does, more power to him. The comeback may not be as much about him driving in nascar again as it is a personal victory to show that he beat the hell out of his personal demons.

Exactly !!!!!!!!

I have no sympathy for people who are handed gifts in life, such as having a chance to have successful career in NASCAR or any other sport/career who choose to ruin it with drugs and booze.

Me either, but I respect the fact he was able to turn it around.

I definitely agree with that but I don't think he deserves a 2nd chance at racing at the NASCAR level. There are too many people out there that have always done the right things to try to get this level and can't for one reason or the other, sponsors, money, right place at the right time, connections, etc.

Being in racing/sports is a privilege, it's not a right.

I have a good friend that lost his Masters Certificate and his job as a fellow ship Captain in the Merchant Marines because he slipped and skidded in life, but he conquered his demons and completed the reinstatement process and got his job back and is once again one of the best in the business. Everyone deserves a second chance at any level that they can rise to. I dont think we will ever see him in the top ranks of racing again but if we do I wish him well because its not my place, or anyones, to put restrictions on anybodys life or livelihood. Talent like water will rise or fall to its own level.

Well said

Living in America it is a right(life, liberty and the pursuit of happyness) also most all Americans I've met believe in second chances, but who said this guy is going to walk into a first class ride he's just been reinstated that's all, he still has to get a ride.

It's good to see someone getting clean and getting another shot. I hope now Shane Hmeil gets the same chance I can't imagine what it would be like to be Bi-polar and not know it, to be misdiagnosed over and over and come out of it as good as he has is a small miracle.

Um, I dont believe Shane will be racing again.....sadly

Yup. I've done a lot of stupid things.
I have drank too much before but never woke up with a cow. Always hot rod girls for me :growl:
I also never pissed away a professional racing career in a NASCAR series because I wanted to use dope :owquitit:

And if you had the talent to be there and screwed up I would be all for you getting your act together and giving it another try, if you make it, good, if not at least you tried.

Well I will admit to not liking Daddy's money drivers, Maybe I shouldn't be so harsh, but I prefer the drivers who demonstrate some sweat equity. I realize there have been some with money to good to deny, Tim Richmond came from a family with money, but he was a natural and in his day he still drove some clunkers prior to the Hendricks. car. Davey Allison also was put through the sweat and learning paces by a wise Farther. (In summary a few drivers that overcome almost impossible odds, and some semi desperate women make life worth the living and that's what I wanted to say most everything else is justt background stuff).

It is harder to respect Fike as a driver that is proving himself he already seems more privileged than most to me. That's not contempt, I hope he stays clean, and has a blessed and productive life like Johali. I hope he proves Johali right, that's a win win.

Sorry sounds nice but these guys risk their lives at 200mph and a heroin addict is not who they want to run with. No sponsor will go near him anyway.
