Columbus, Ohio -- The son of former Ohio State coach Woody Hayes has been assigned as the judge handling the case of suspended Buckeye tailback Maurice Clarett.

Franklin County Municipal Judge Steven B. Hayes will preside over the case. A pretrial hearing is set for October 3rd.

Cases are assigned to judges at random.

Clarett has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor falsification charge, which has a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a thousand dollar fine.

Clarett is charged with lying to police about items stolen in April after a dealership's car he was borrowing was broken into. The police report says cash and stereo equipment worth thousands of dollars was taken.

When I read this I was like NO WAY! I think it could go both ways. Hayes' son could want to see Claurett back on the field with the Buckeyes. Or he could view all the issues around Claurett as a negitive thing for the team. But actually as a judge you would think he would be fair....
