I'm not sure this has been discussed before and with all the "What we like" threads that are here, I'm not going to go back and look. (Just wondering when we are finished with those?)

Anyway, as probably most of you know, the Busch Series, previously known as the Busch Grand National Series will only be called the Busch Series from here out. NASCAR has started a couple of new series that they want to be feeder series for the top three touring series, NCTS, NBS and NNCS. The new Grand National Series will consist of the Busch North Series and the old Winston West Series. I'd guess that they would have to change the rules for one or both of those series since they ran different cars. (Busch North were like the BGN cars and the WW cars were like the Cup cars) I've seen where they are going to allow the WW cars to run 105 inch wheel base but I'm not sure they are cutting out the 110 inchers.

The other new series is the Elite Series that will have four divisions from around the country. This series seems to be of the late model type of cars where the wheelbase is from 101 to 105 inch and running on Hoosier tires.

NASCAR has also started another touring series for the southern modified cars that heretofore ran as the SMART Series and will compete for a title against the Featherlite Modifieds of the northeast, with both series naming a champ and one mod champ named later.

I've read a little about that. It's a little unclear to me if new series are going to compete on a national level though. I can see an advantage to that if they are trying to sharpen the competition level. But I also see a huge disadvantage in the cost of racing for the smaller series! I hope it's kept regional. Three series at the national level is plenty. :)

Well, the cost of racing has definitely gone up. All touring series now are required to have the HANS device and talking to my friend who owns a couple of modified cars I have found out that those devices aren't cheap. Also, along with that, they have to buy a seat that will accomodate the device.

As for the new series, I do believe that they will continue to be local. I think what NASCAR is trying to do is get more control with racing across the country. One of our local tracks who was associated with ASA and they had many of the SMART races, but since this track has refused to be sanctioned by NASCAR, they have been shut out of any SMART races.

Control, control, control.
