I have a serious message to impart.

I have been a member at Racing-Forums for a while, but have NEVER seen such an influx of new members who are here only to spam the site.
If your ONLY purpose in registering is to spam, advertise, or belittle the loyal members, PLEASE DON'T EVEN BOTHER as you WILL be reported, recycled, cornered or banned!
Please recognize that the Admin and Mods are onto you and we are not stupid! Regular members are onto you as well and your silly games WILL NOT last long or be tolerated.

i have another board i can go to if i want to read that kinda bull ****. this place is kinda like a safe haven
 
Thanks y'all! I like this little corner of the internet planet way too much to see those fools (I like to call them TERMITES) play their childish games.
I also want to THANK everyone who reports an out of line post as WE are the heart of this Board.
Sam Curry is a wonder, and I thank him for this board....THE BEST ON THE NET!

I run my own message board. I noticed there was a surge of new members in recent weeks that only register in hopes of people will see their home page, which is a link to a porn site. I had to delete about 20 user names that were like that. I guess people have nothing better to do.
 
It must be an epidemic of trolls passing thru. We had a ton of them over on the My Classic Car board. We kicked there butts there too. GET 'EM KAT.

I've noticed Spammers' messages seem to have the paper or "post" icon next to their posts. Is there some universal secret spammer code that they should always choose that icon? ;)
Seriously, I just wanted to say great job to all the mods and admins for doing their best to keep this place spam/troll free. :beerbang:
 
kat, you need to see if there are some simple mods for the board software that will ban spammer when they try to register. I run phpBB on my board and found some mods that will instantly ban spammers that try to insert a link during the registration process. I incorporated the mods on mine and it has banned several spammers. They have since stopped posting.

Most spammers use programs that register by a program instead of manually. They are called bots. When they insert certain items into their profile during registration, they are banned immediately. I would advise looking for these mods for your software.
 
MRM, sam and fury are working on getting some time to install the new software that should cut down on the trolls and spam. Its hell to have to work for a living. LOL
 
good point- i dont remmeber if it sent a PW in email, but that would help alot- so they have to use a real email. that would be worth bout 50%.
 
Magnet, BOTS have ways to hide their IP addie, and even scramble stuff.
It will be wonderful when a "new" member HAS TO confirm their application to join us with a REAL email address.
 
How come that isn't the case now, that a new member has to confirm with a genuine E-Mail??
 
I'm sure no GURU, but it's not my Board either.
Sam and Fury are doing a fantasitc job, and so are the Mods.

MEMBERS need to REPORT the offensive posts as Mods can't be here 24/7/365.
 
I just left another racing forum due to a take over of little kids posting things that totally have nothing to due with racing, racing life or even cars in general. Their signatures were filled with so many pictures and stupid stuff it would take a entire page to view one comment .. I saw your site here and thought it seemed more professional and had places for off the subject matters.. Thanks for having me on here.. cant wait to get started meeting adults that share the same love for racing as I have :)
 
Sam has a fantastic way of managing a board. Let those who love it manage it for day to day. Sure beats the anal-retentive management I've found as some other boards (who won't benefit from any advertising by me)

I did that for my board for a while. But I spent more time deleting bogus accounts than I did actually reading the board.

MRM, let me tell you that we have banned many, many "newbies" even since SAM upgraded!
 
That is one of the advantages of using a phpBB board. Lots of mods and support for it. I was using an IP ban mod for spammers, but they mask their IP addresses and regular members were getting banned. I switched to another mod and it has worked so far. There is no banning, just kicks the spammer out of the registration process and sends me an email with their info in it. You might want to see if vBulletin offers a similar mod.

The only ones that are getting canned are the spammers from Europe that seem to proliferate like flies.

When you are advertising prescription drugs or male enhancement, you are not a race fan. LOL
 
I have been helping a friend who has been seriously ill. She appointed me as site administrator of her racing site that is devoted to helping advance women in racing and motorsports. Trust me, her site gets more spam and porn related stuff than you can imagine. I have been fully occupied banning the S.O.B.'s. Just where do these idiots come from.
