the guy that lives next to you is a muslim, he is also a PHD chemist that goes out of the counrty alot. one day back in the summer you are tryin to work in your yard and the guys dog is chained so that he can get right to the property line, the thing won't quit barking. you go to the guy and ask if he can move the dog so you can get some work done. he doesn't like this and some words are exchanged, with him threating to kill you with a pitchfork, at that point you invite him across the fence for a good old southern ass whippin. which he declines. You haven't spoken to him since.

yesterday, you have a xmas package in your mail box from him ????? what would you do in this situtiation ??? open it or call the bomb squad
 
Call the bomb squad! What the heck? Why would he send you a Christmas present if you haven't talked since you had words? I'd be scared!
 
i am concerned ( i put the present in his mail box) why would a muslim send a xmas present any way ?? the man has had issues with everyone in the community
 
i generally wouldn't think anything of it except for the fact that, as mentioned before, Muslims do not celebrate christmas...of course, some of my muslim students have gotten me christmas presents, but then again, I haven't had any confrontations with them...just think of it this way, if the man wasn't a muslim and the same situation had occurred, what would you do?
 
Why not invite him and his family over to your house for a get together. Let him know that you will open the gift while he is present so you can thank him properly. If he and his family shows it is probably safe to open.
 
Because if it is something like what may be implied, he and his family will be a martyr.

If you don't want it, throw it in the trash. Or better yet, his.
 
Did it ever occur to any of you that perhaps the man simply felt some quilt about his previous behavior and thought a gift during this season would be an appropriate gesture of apology to his neighbor?

Just a thought.

example, the guys kid who is about 13 is drivin his truck ( we live in the country remember when kids learned to drive on country roads) and of course he can't drive well and he runs through a fence the guy who owns the fence ask the guy to repair the fence, the guy goes nuts once again, tells the guy he is going to kill him the guy calls the police and ends up having to sue to get his fence fixed.

this is just one example i can give many more if needed
 
Why not take it to the police and have them determine what is in the package. Explain the circumstance to them.
 
A chemist, huh? That could be anything from Meth to C4.

Seriously though, if you were going to send someone a bomb (or anything harmful), would you put your name on it?

well my 2 cents..........if that had happened to me, first I would not have come on a forum to ask advice from everyone, I would have called the cops, the bomb squard, the FBI..etc......why do you need advice on what to do, use common sense...call your local authorities.......... :D :D
 
And this is how the media has turned the united states against one another, the fear of terror is so rampant that a simple "merry christmas" is turned into a bomb squad issue. Have you ever asked him how his Ramadan is going? Probably not, but at least he's willing to help you celebrate your holidays.

Yeah....after he threatened to kill him. Sounds like someone I would really trust. :rolleyes:
 
Yeah, someone threatens your life with a pitch fork and you don't speak since........then, an unannounced "gift" arrives. Pretty simple to me! :) Some people are so naive and trusting that it is sometimes the death of them. An extreme example is in the news right now......the pregnant woman murdered by someone she "trusted" and her baby stolen. And the woman had no reason at all to suspect her acquaintance. At least in this case there is a reason to suspect. Love and peace only goes so far in this world now days. The fact that the suspected is Muslim is probably a coincidence.......unfortunate, because the ugly head of "bigotry" comes into play for many in this world. I say call the bomb squad. Figure it out later and apologize if necessary.

He is probably just trying to play some kind of mind game with you. Just seeing what you would do with a package he sends you. He would probably find it ammusing if you had it examined. It probably has some kind of fruitcake or something of the kind in it. He may even be hoping you take it to the authorities to have it examined so when it proves to be just some kind of harmless gift you appear to be the nut case. Perhaps so when he does something further you will get no response from the authorities.

Simply returning to sender seems like the logical step here. If he is offended by that, that is his choice. He has certainly offended you in the past and didn't seem too choked up about it. Good luck.

or you could just thank him for it over graciously and then throw it away...if he asks if you like it, just say, "oh, I threw it away because you're an a**hole" and maybe he'd figure it out...sounds like somebody needs a fence ( I do too, btw)
 
thanks everyone for the suggestions, i put it in his mailbox,
the funny thing, there are 8 familys that live in our small community everyone got along we even had cookouts together, this guy moves in and over the past couple of years everyone has kinda drifted apart in fact i haven't even seen or talked to but a couple of folks in months and the topic of conversation was this guy. he is doing bad thing to everyone.

guess he is the bad apple in the barrel, I would stay clear of him......to bad you can't run him out of dodge......guess every neighborhood has their bad apple, we sure have one of our own here....... :(
