Shane Hmiel has reportedly been released from the #48 team, effective immediately. He will be replaced by Jeff Green this weekend at Dover (09-16-03)

I'm surprised because Shane was doing pretty good this year.

I don't think so, did you forget who his dad is? I think he will keep racing for the championship.

Interesting, Im quite surprised. For sometimes being a hazard out there on the track, he was doing well, in 8th in points. Maybe he had some sort of falling out with his team? Who knows, but they obviously took a step up by hiring Green, he can sure drive a Busch car.

I think he is pretty good in points standing. Must be bad blood or something else we haven't heard about.

The Buzz: Hmiel to lose ride?
September 17, 2003
5:24 PM EDT (2124 GMT)

An announcement is expected Thursday to suspend NASCAR Busch Series driver Shane Hmiel from competition.

The length of the suspension is not known and rumor has it the action could cost Hmiel his Innovative Motorsports ride.

Hmiel was still listed as the driver of the No. 48 Chevrolet for this weekend's race at Dover International Speedway, but a replacement hasn't been named.

Jeff Green is a possible substitute. Hmiel was originally listed as the driver of the No. 43 Dodge in Sunday's Winston Cup race, but Green replaced him on the entry list Monday.

An unnamed source said that Hmiel was subjected to a drug test after the race at Richmond International Raceway two weeks ago and allegedly failed it.

A spokesperson for Hmiel's Busch team declined comment Wednesday, and NASCAR could not be immediately reached for comment.
