Should I take my canoe to work?

Dozens of accidents reported in Charles County and schools have closed. All that said, they expect all employees to work on time this morning (which could be an impossibility at this point). So, should I call out or should I ride my canoe to work?

Well, put my SUV in 4WD and didn't look back. Rough swim to work this morning, but I made it.

Roads are closed up my way. 210 and 228 (where the deadly street race took place) is closed. 210, major flooding up through Ft. Washington. Livingston Rd., closed. Gardner Rd, Closed. 301 up through PG, major flooding. 373, closed.

Major storm devastation in Calvert County as well. St. George Island is under a mandatory evacuation. A 3-story house collapsed on Chesapake Beach in Calvert. Saint Marys, Calvert and Charles report a lot of trees down. Sinkhole is swallowing a house up in Ft. Washington.

I can't even tell you when the last time a storm system (that was not a hurricane) did this much damage.

Friend in SMC sent me this. This isn't even at high tide yet.

We are now under a flood warning until 2:30pm EST. Any more, and it could get ugly.

Despite having been called in to work today, nobody else is here. Most everyone called out, trapped at home. And these are the same people who make fun of my busted up SUV.

This is the worst flooding, in this area, that I've seen since moving here.

MAJOR FLOOD ALERT: Upper Marlboro, MD., up at the old racetrack - completely submerged now. Pennsylvania Avenue and part of 301 leading up to Pennsylvania Ave., and The Showplace Arena of Southern Maryland: all closed due to flooding.

Accokeek Raceway (as I like to call it) is reopened to traffic, but there are still high water concerns.

There are now delays (caused by weather) up through St. Charles.

One thing's for sure, it's going to be a long day.

God be kirking out today. Magnitude 7.8 earthquake in China, thousands killed.

Just found out we have riverside property.

We didn't have riverside property until this morning.

It was pretty brutal out my way, too. Tons of flooding and downed trees. We were without power from 8:30pm (during the Pens/Cryers game.... :( ) until almost 11am. The kids school was closed due to the flooding in the county.

Where are you located, Andy? I work with a lady that lives in Port Tobacco, MD. Are you near there?

I think you should ride your bike to work...

I've gotten word that the site of the old Marlboro Motor Raceway, where Roger Penske made his first career start, was totally submerged and destroyed as a product of this storm. Upper Marlboro saw it's worst flooding, EVER.

The owners are asking $5 million for it, that ain't gonna happen. ;)

LMAO @ the Cryers remark. :lol2:

Jen, I'm very near Port Tobbaco. I'm a little north of there, right in between St. Charles/Waldorf and Accokeek.
