Should NASCAR allow teams to pick their fuel cell size?

Think about that headline a bit before you respond. Allowing teams to run whatever size fuel cell they want (within reason) would change up the fuel mileage deal a lot. A larger cell would allow more laps, but would also add weight at the beginning of the run and would require more time to refuel during pitstops. If NASCAR only allowed 1-3 gallons more everyone would probably go with the max size. But what if NASCAR allowed another 10 gallons? Now you are talking some serious strategy. Again, weight and refueling time come in to play big time.

Doubt I need to tell you but I HATE fuel mileage races.

You know, now that they're taking jetting control away and (by the sound sof it) only allowing a couple of fuel curves for the FI, maybe this wouldn't be a bad idea. Letting teams have options from 18 gallons to 28 gallons would make a 60 pound and 50 mile swing per tank.

"And now to the ESPN garage where Tim Brewer will explain the difference between the 17 gallon fuel cell and the 19 gallon fuel cell. Tim"

I'm not a fan of fuel mileage races either and think that optional cell sizes is a good idea. Keeping in mind that teams can and do sometimes decide how much fuel they put in the tank already.

I don't think it would make a difference. They would all choose the tank that held the most fuel.

I think everyone would take the biggest cell possible and then put in only what they need. Then, the fuel game will start earlier in the race if tire wear isn't much of a detriment.

NASCAR needs to get tire strategy back in the game and also lose the aero package so we'll see more passing. 'position, position, position' is getting old. How about 'racing, racing, racing'.

They'd find a way to fill the frame rails and roll cage with fuel...I'm just sayin'

Interesting idea!

How bout each car starts with 50 gallons on board and refueling is NOT allowed. It would make for shorter races at least...

This isn't the FIA

Even if the idea did work there..kinda.
