Could you imagine what the points would look like if their were no provisionals. Matt had 5,jr. had 2,
ryan and kevin have 1 and bill and tony have none

Yeah but Kenseth for the most part still made the top 43. It would also suck for a driver that had a good car and cut a tire down or something.

I think that they should go back to 2 qual sessions! And take the provisionals out. let the fastest 43 race. If the points leader is 44th fastest he still goes home.
Do like they normaly do on friday, then either early saturday morning before the first practice run a qual session for those only who did not make the top 43 in the first round. The people who qual on 2nd round start behind everyone who qualified in first round no matter how fast they are.(n ( kinda like it is for the Indy 500) If anyone gets bummped out of the top 43 then they can re- qualify as well, but at the end of the second round.

Does that make sence???

I'm in between on this. 7 is way too many, but to a certain extent, a series does need to protect its high-point drivers. As an example, if Dale Jr. crashes in qualifying and goes home because he didn't make the field as a result, that's a lot fewer people who will watch the race on Sunday. I say 3 provisionals, with no past champion's prov., especially since no one has used it since DW retired.

Go fast or go home. 43 cars qualify all on speed, not with all these provisonals that you have built up that you can use for a free ride.

I voted no,but I also think there are too many provisionals in the current scheme of NASCAR,3 or 4 prov's should be plenty.I'm for having some spots open though as the alternative would be that some of the sports biggest names might not qualify for a race,I'm sure that a lot of fans would be ticked off about such a developement, especially if She/He spent big $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ & a lot of time to go to a certain race, only to find out that 1 or more of Their fave driver(s) didn't make the race,I'm sure also that the big-time sponsors wouldn't like it if Their moving billboard wasn't out on the track, because there were no proisionals in place,JMO.

i thought i heard a week or two ago that biffle was the only driver not to use a provisional this year. im not sure if that is true, just what i heard.

As it is now the pressure to qualify is tremendous, take away all their provisionals and you will see a lot of desperate drivers come qualifying time. I don't think the sponsors would like it either, after all they put up their money for reason, to get their product shown to millions on the moving billboards. Won't do them any good if their team is loaded up in the hauler and on the way back to the shop. I say leave it the way it is now. I say also leave the points the way they are now too with 1 exception , award 5 points for the pole.

I voted Yes, but only because that it was yes/no question. Idealy I would have no more than 2 or 3 provisionals with no past champion and also cut back on the amount of times they can use them in a season. To me the provisionals are just a crutch for teams like Cope.

I vote no, and like Goat only because it is a yes/no ?. I tend to agree with Strides. Reduce the # of provisionals. Goat also has a good point, as do most on their opinions, yes or no.

I had to vote no. There are too many legitimate arguments for both sides to just make this a yes or no question/answer.

He has not used a provisional this year, but he also missed a race because he did not have one to use.
