This is only one of the reasons I am fed up with baseball. Yeah, he had a gambling problem.....So what? Its not like he was a drug dealer or some other punk.

I say let him in.

There's never been any proof that he bet on the Reds which is the main reason why he isn't in.

Selig wants him to issue a formal apology before they will let him in the hall. I think the reaction that Rose got at the World Series, is all that needs to be said.

Selig wouldnt make a good pimple on Pete's rearend.Pete Rose was one of the best men in baseball unlike that bastard that runs the show.;)

Oh Yah, Uncle Bud (as he's known here) is the biggest fool in baseball. We are stuck with a white elephant stadium whose roof leaks!! Bud and his charming daughter, Wendy Selig-Preib, are really full of themselves. Ok, I'm off the soap box. To answer the question, yes Pete belongs in the hall of fame. I don't know that much about baseball, but from what I remember, he was very good.

When you look at some of the stuff that goes on in other sports, a little betting is not a big thing. He had the money, let him blow it any way he wants.

By the way, just a question for you sports fans. Is OJ in the football hall of fame?

This has been a sore subject to me for many years.

I dont know if Pete ever bet for or against the REDS,,,but if he did I would think it would be for the Reds to win. If not then Charlie Hustle would have wasted many years of busting his ass on the game.

YES O.J. is in the hall of fame. But know he was there before his mishap.

:D :D I say put him in. With a sport eat up with guys making mega-bucks. Steroid aduse and drugs. They keep him out on a trumped up charge of betting on basball. Uncle Bud is a idiot.

YUP YUP and a resounding YUP

he played ball and he played it well.

Monty

Of COURSE. One thing Mr Hustle never did was quit trying! He made plays still not duplicated in the modern era and the original ruling was a travesty

Pete Rose was far from my favorite player of that era. I was a Munson fan. But no one can deny that he is one of the best to ever play the game. He redefined baserunning. His head was always in the game. As was his heart.

As to whether his wallet was in the game as well, I have no idea. He claims to have never bet on Reds games. I dunno. If he did, that's fixing games to be certain, which strikes at the integrity of the sport. If he didn't, no harm no foul.

How do you keep the best of the best out of the Hall? Pete ranks in the top 10 position players of all time IMO. The Hall is about on-field excellence; it is not and was never intended to be anything more or less. He deserves to be there for eternity. Future generations won't give a hang whether he bet on a Reds game. They deserve to know who he was and what he accomplished.

Pretty one sided pole. Unfortunately, we do not have a vote. MLB will probably wait until he dies to let him in.

No

Evidence has convinced me that Pete Rose bet on baseball and on games in which he was "participant".

Rule 21d is crystal clear on that issue. There has never been an exception. Popularity and/or prowess are not footnoted as exceptions.

I grew up in the Queen city, and some don't,and never will know the whole story.Pete should be in the Hall of fame,And not the Hall of shame. ;)

Even if he did bet on baseball, others (including Seleg himself!) have done worse things to damage the "integrity" of the sport. Including, but not limited to...steroid abuse, crooked umpiring aspecially the fiasco where the fan clearly interfered with the outfielder(the umpires ruled it a home run thus basically gift wrapping the WORLD SERIES for the Yankees, etc. I'm not saying Pete did or did not bet on baseball, because we will never know for sure, but all I'm saying is even if he did, that is not a good enough reason to keep the all-time hits leader out of Cooperstown. He has more right to be there than Selig does!
