Should the Big 3 get out of NASCAR?

At least he doesn't have an over-blown opinion of himself.

Yes it does, an awful lot of truth to it. I think Pontiac was the first (and smartest) to see it for what it is and focus on the market they could do some good in.

Just the other day I posted somewhere here that maybe NASCAR just needs to build the cars, bring them to the tracks and let the teams pick their car out randomly and afix their decals to them. I hadn't even heard of this guy before now but he seems to be saying that is the direction NASCAR is moving in.

Whatever happened to driving to a track in the car you intended to race? And, your family rode with you. Peopel want to talk about NASCAR moving away from its traditions...

Very interesting article, i think he points out what is wrong with Nascar today. I think he hits it right in the bulls'eye.

I've said for the last few years that the cars should fit templates of the car I can buy off the showroom floor. If one is faster than the other, too bad.

I agree. If FORD is fastest, don't whine because your Chevy is slow. Buy a FORD...

My feelings exactly.
I don't want to hear the manufacturers whinning about another having an advantage, go build a better one.

Yep i think most fans would like to see a car that resembles what they drive rather than a fabrication. Would be cool to have the real Badge battles again.

I believe the Chevy's have a rather large advantage. ;) and God Bless the poor slow Dodges. I believe I could out run some of them in my Grand Am

I thought he made a lot of since. These are not really cars. They are just machines with stickers on them. Take the stickers off and you just almost can't tell them apart.

But does anyone remember about 10 years ago when one manufacturer was dominating the others? Besides the teams screaming for NASCAR to level the field, the manufacturers were screaming the loudest. NASCAR saw the light that Ford, Chevrolet and Pontiac were shining so brightly and started equalizing the cars with aero rules and templates. I don't remember the auto manufacturers complaining back then. Manufacturers brought a lot of this on themselves. They wanted equality, they got it. And, amazing to me, it's still the make that wins on Sunday, sells more than the others on Monday. I have next to no sympathy for the manufacturers.

good read...dodge's approach kinda makes me think they already think like this guy. as far as i ever noticed, the dodge nascare car has always had r/t on the front, never "intrepid"...and the front end looks a heck of a lot more like the stratus than an intrepid. i even heard something a few months ago along the lines that they want their drivers to say "dodge" instead of intrepid because they're in nascare primarily for name recognition.

i agree with this guy...the big three should be putting their money into some other series...sports cars, f1, irl, some other stock car series...anywhere that would allow them to show off their product in an atmosphere other than nascare's "parity" showcase. or, nascare should focus on giving the big three more for their money...

(the following opinion belongs to the conspiracy part of my brain, and does not neccessarily reflect the views of me, this website, the internet, or al gore)

hmm...new conspiracy thought...toyota will have occassional success, but they will not be as successful as the American brands, no matter how much they spend. this will appease the big three by having them beat the "import" rival and having toyota use up some of its racing budget in vane. so that's why chevy upped its presence in the truck series...interesting.
