It seems that the 4 and the 41 have taken a rather inexplicable step back during the Chase. Harvick can't seem to get into the top 5 consistently like he has all season, and Busch has been pretty mediocre to bad all Chase long. Any chance Hendrick is pulling back the quality of what they send SHR? I can't think of many other explanations for the rapid performance decline...

Harvick's been on and off all year, but he dominated at Kansas

Harvick had a solid 3rd place car and drove it great. Speedwise, they've been off by their standards. Hendrick pulling back seems reasonable

Has nothing to do with the chassis HMS gives them and the rest of the car is SHR.
Of course when a HMS employee is doing the final engine tune before the race
let me just say it isn't hard to tune out 3 HP

when it was announced HMS was switching to ford the support started getting less and less. I don't think its hurt SHR much if any and I don't think there is any vindictiveness about it. SHR was usually running a tad older HMS chassis and messaging them to their liking. They hung their own bodies, and built the car themselves essentially. I wonder if when the motor blows they get the motor at least for free that week.

I don't think for one second that HMS would or could slack off on the quality of the equipment that it sells to other teams . They have a reputation to protect . When it comes to information sharing on set ups ,or crew chiefs being allowed to sit in on HMS debriefings and race set up plans , I suspect this would be severely curtailed .

I suspect that it is a lack of info as opposed to specifically designing poor bits and pieces to SHR too.

Principals from HMS and SHR have been on record at various times since February that the relationship would change this season and that information sharing in particular would dwindle.

This likely has had some negative impact. If it helps to do it, it must hurt to stop doing it. However, information sharing goes both ways. Wouldn't HMS have been harmed by lack of data from the SHR cars that were out-running them for most of the year? Not if they found something new I suppose, which they appear to have.

There are likely several factors involved in SHR's recent struggles. They have to be working on the Ford stuff already as well for next season that is just a few months away.

I suspect it's neither.

Having the handle and losing it for innumerable reasons is as common as dirt.

HMS said they would not be sharing data as the season wore on and perhaps the end of the season and loss of handle are a coincidence but in the past few weeks Gordon/Bowman, Elliott, JJ and even KK have began to run better and that has coincided with SHR's drop off.

According to JJ the info sharing was a one way street as SHR got all of HMS's data but the deal was not reciprocal. I guess the hair dryers will be working overtime to get those nasty Chevy Bowtie stickers and exhaust decals removed and replaced by Ford stickers.

That's so true . And Hendrick isn't really setting the world on fire this year.

I can't disagree with that but they have as many cars in the lottery finale as JGR and once you are in lottery haven anything can happen. Perhaps even a game 7 moment will break out.

I could be remembering wrong, but I thought that was clarified later to be inaccurate.

Haha. I know they'll be leasing their engines, but they announced that they would be building their own chassis, which is a considerable change for them and a program one would think they've already started.

I'd guess they'll use the best of the chassis they already have and build some new ones.

Stewart-Haas has been off. But, I'd have a hard time believing it's because Hendrick's not supporting them the way they have been. That would not be a very smart business move.

I'm sure the level of equipment supplied is the same but data/setup sharing has stopped for sure.

SHR has had everything they needed from HMS for this race for weeks.

Sucking to be Harvick now when he doesn't have the best car EVERY week like before. HMS has found something and they seen sure not sharing it with SHR. Closer having trouble when he can't even be in the game. Lol

I doubt it. Again, would be incredibly foolish on their part. It's still a business deal, money is still green... all Hendrick would be doing is hurting themselves in the future by doing this.

I don't understand this fascination with Tony and GM. Tony could have opted out of his contract with JGR when they went to Toyota. Now as Operation manager with SHR he has switched to Fords. He had to know at some point the information would stop flowing and when needed HMS who sets all engines at SHR could easily dial out 1 or 2 HP and going by the 4 and 41 yesterday, I think they did.

I'm not sure Tony has the ability to make this move without Gene Hass giving the green light.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tony was TOLD to do this and that is why he retired.
Gene Hass and Roger Penske are the only Billionaires in cup racing.

I wouldn't get to excited...it won't last for very long.
