This could be the craziest season ever for driver movement by season's end. If the Stewart-Newman team does happen, I think there will be at least 12 driver changes among the major teams for '09. I think a couple of teams will shut down and those drivers will take other rides expected to be taken by other available drivers.

MRM, I totally agree about the silliness of this silly season.
We're going to need scorecards come February.

I do believe when the "Tony domino" falls, things are going to happen fast.

Nascar Now reporting that DEI announced today that Aric Almirola would be full time next year in the #8 and Mark Martin will be making his announcement in Daytona that he will be driving the #5 next year.

Dang - I like Mark and all, but he's retired so many times, well, I wish I could retire just one of those times. ROFL Besides, I wanted my man SMOKE there so I could have my two guys in the same garage.

Dario's team has closed shop and it's been rumored since May he might head back to open wheels next year.

wouldnt surrise me. made is handful of starts just like a bunch fo the other open wheelers and is going back where he belongs hopefully.

Wouldn't surprise me that most of the open wheel guys go back to the newly unified Indy car. The rides in Nascar are going to be few and far between, the exception might be JPM. As far as Martin goes, he wants to win a championship before he retires it seems, either that or he is trying to hang on until his kid gets into Nascar. His oldest is what 16 now? It might be like Junior driving the 88 this year if Martin gets in the 5. He would probably be given a car capable of winning the title. I was sick of the whole retirement debacle when it first happened, now its' like ok Mark whatever, i don't think he will retire for awhile.

Matt Martin is pretty much out of racing right now. He's told Mark that he's interested in going to college, instead of racing.

I just don't think Mark can give it up.

I made up a list last week based on some changes I think might happen. After I made the list is when I found out Mears was out of the 5 and that RCR was interested in him. What I have for the 33 and 26 could swap. I did correct the list to reflect the 40 closing. I almost said that originally because I couldn't come up with a driver for that slot except for their NNWS driver, Bryan Clauson.

Interesting. I disagree with some of those. I'd move Scott Speed to Cup and take McMurray and Yeley out - but this is going to be a wacky silly season.

Hey, they don't call it silly season for nothing.:D

i agree. I don't see robby and DEI teaming up on the 1 car. He's expressed wanting to go to a 2 car team.

Huh no kidding, i thought he was on the fast track to Nascar.

huh not 43 cars next year. please tell me were not going from 2007 where we 50 cars at every race to 2009 where there will be field fillers again

I said the major teams/drivers. Teams like the 78 and 34 aren't big players.

Some of these picks are for fun. If Truex does leave DEI and we already know Mark Martin is, they'll need someone with a name to step in a drive. I don't think they stand a chance of getting Casey Mears. I could see them going after Robby if they come up dry with a driver search. I'm sure I'll be totally wrong with all of these but 2 or 3 of them.
