Raised on a farm in Concord, N.C., Scott and Seth Avett spent Saturday nights during their adolescence watching local heroes race at dirt tracks.
July 9, the Avetts' upstart folk rock band will become the headliner at their hometown racetrack on a Saturday night.
In a first for Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Avett Brothers' concert at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colo., will be simulcast on the Concord superspeedway's new high-definition video board. The track will set up amphitheater-style seating in its infield around the backstretch screen, which is 200 feet wide and 80 feet tall.
"The speedway has been a hometown landmark for us our whole lives, and we're proud to have an opportunity for our music to echo through that historic infield," said Seth Avett, who fronts the band with his older brother. "For us, performing at Red Rocks and airing live in Concord is about the most ideal situation for being in two amazing places at once."
