Since When can you take a Black Flag back

During the Busch race today Nascar throws the black flag at the 12 car for jumping the restart!

Then all the sudden they take it back?

What the heck is going on up top in the leadership at Nascar?

These guys modify races by doing this stuff all the time!

Its pretty obvious that the flag guy threw the black flag and then Nascar leadership called down and said thats an Earnhardt take it back!

This makes Nascar nothing more than the WWE !

I have had it with their crap!

I guess I will keep watching F1 and Michael Schu win every race! At least it is a legitimate car racing series!

you can take a black flag back if you review the tape footage and deem that the original call was false. Black flags have been declined before, this is nothing new.

LOL....thats a good one.....have yet to see a nascar driver have to pull over to let his teammate win.....cause that was REAL legitimate.....

I guess you haven't watched DEI cars at the superspeedways then!

Name one time when Nascar took a black flag back in any series?
Just ONE ?????????????????????????????

oh my......i see that was response was given alot of thought.... ............and I must apologize for us nascar fans that don't keep a notebook on every black flag or penality that has been taken back or changed for such an occasion, even tho I have seen black flags and pit penalties taken back after reviewing them, but since I can't name a specific race or date or time it must have never happened...so I guess nascar gave Kerry 2nd place just cause of his name and you know all ole wise one of the almighty F1 series fan base!.....  ......

:( You said they took it back because it was a Earnhardt As iI can remember Dale Sr. was blackflaged many times. And Dale Jr. has gotten his share of them. So go ahead and watch f1.

Tonystewart1, NASCAR realized they made a mistake, they corrected it. That's what responsible people do. Just relax, take a deep breath and get over it.

TS1, if you're not careful, you might punctuate yourself into oblivion. :p

a deep breath breath???..sounds like there is enuff air in that head!!!!:D :D :D :D :...........

and yes...it was just a joke y'all!!:D

As long as they get the call right, I'm happy. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes.

You Earnhardt fans will never admit that your drivers just dont have the talent and that Nascar has to give them positions, victories and titles!!!!!!!!

Thats the bottom line!

It comes in the form of taking points away from competitors, getting McDonalds Supersize Restrictor plates and now taking back penalties!

Flyboy, Flyboy, Flyboy. :grrrr:

You can be an Earnhardt fan if you want too. No one will laugh at you, I promise. Just admit it and you'll feel a lot better.

Okay.....just wondering since my two most favorite punctuations are the . (period) and the ! (exclamation mark)...........!!!!!!!:)

Just joking with you abooja.

Tonystewart1 s just a punk rookie all rookies make there mistakes here and there

Actually, The Elements of Style is a fun read, as far as grammar books go. How can it not be with stuff like this? :D

The Elements of Style, Third Edition:

Nauseous. Nauseated.  The first means "sickening to contemplate"; the second means "sick at the stomach." Do not, therefore, say "I feel nauseous," unless you are sure you have that effect on others.

BTW, this passage is not available in the online edition. It's from the "Misused Words and Expressions" section, which was apparently updated to omit this entry. Interesting how language has evolved (some would say devolved) since even 1979, when my edition of the book was published. If you'll notice, this version also included punctuation inside the quotation marks, which is no longer popular among grammarians.

Speaking of the word "interesting", here's another passage omitted in the online version of this book:

The Elements of Style, Third Edition:

Interesting.  An unconvincing word; avoid it as a means of introduction. Instead of announcing that which you are about to tell is interesting, make it so.

An interesting story is told of
    (Tell the story without preamble.)

In connection with the forthcoming visit of Mr. B. to America, it is interesting to recall that he
Mr. B., who will soon visit America

Also to be avoided in introduction is the word funny. Nothing becomes funny by being labeled so.

Sorry for all the grammar, guys. I actually find this stuff interesting. :D :p

Interesting post abooja. Funny how language changes over time.

(Did I violate those rules correctly?:D)

Ok kids....have stayed away from this one all day....

but here ya go.....The Wizard of Oz is great and powerful wizard. The Wizard can do anything!:D

I know I have seen a race where a black flag was retracted, but since I can't think of a specific example off hand, I will let you have it. It really doesn't matter, Nascar did what they felt was right, and I think it was the right call to make.

I never said I was a fan of Earnhardt, but I respected Dale Sr. as a racer, as I do his sons. I think the real problem here is your bias against the Earnhardt name. Maybe an Earnhardt spun out one of your drivers or said something you didn't like once. I don't know, and frankly I don't care.

If a bad decision is made and it can be corrected before damage is done, that is an option we rarely see. Take for instance me. After a day of having loose bowels, I felt some flatulence coming on. I had to make a decision as to release these gases, or make the long trek to the bathroom to be sure to avoid a disaster. I made a bad decision that could not be corrected in time to save my dignity. You may find that there is no connection between my situation and the black flag on Earnhardt. I think the connection is obvious since the name Earnhardt and the words Loose Bowels are interchangeable. Thanks for your time.

Someone forgot to lock the doors to the forum liquor cabinet...

The nice thing about piles of excrement is that it generally means there is a pony nearby.

I think that if Nascar had upheld the black flag against the 12, they would have had to explain why they did not do it against Hornaday in the 26 twice before. Hornaday and Earnhardt both were not leading but took advantage of some extra space between them and their nearest competitor to get a jump and pass on the right (the only legal side to pass on in a restart). Now if Hornaday had been warned or penalized and the other drivers informed then there would have been justification to uphold the black flag. My guess would be Earnhardt's crew chief pointed out Nascar's failure to do anything to Hornaday and Nascar concurred!

I'm glad to see a sport where they do make corrections. Tennis has seen numerous bad calls and they have cameras to prove it but don't correct their mistakes. There have been times where both players have agreed on the call and the chair ump. doesn't change the call.

The issue about making corrections has always been debated. Whatever sport you watch all officiating calls must be made in a split second and there is no guarantee that it is right. While I do agree with overturning a call on the field, I do not like using TV to prove a call wrong, such as NFL replay. The officials are trianed to make these calls in a split second and no official will ever be 100% right. Face it, mistakes are a part of the game. The only way Kerry's black flag should have been withdrawn is if the officials overruled each other. No TVs, no arguing from crew chiefs, just another human being overruling another human being.

In the modern tennis world balls fly past your face at a good 100 + mph and players have been hitting closer to the lines then ever before...a bit different then old days with wooden rackets and players with less power so they have developed these cameras right along lines but the only use for them really is if you are watching the match on tv and the commentators can show you if the ball was in or out.

DJFan,

I think you've got it right on the money. It all comes back to the right call being made. Just b/c people don't like the name Earnhardt doesn't mean Kerry deserved a black flag.

I don't think they replayed the start at all!

Helton called down to the flag stand and said take it back!

Thats the way nascar operates! They play favorites and they do there best to help their favorite drivers win!

Its Not fair and its not right and thats why Nascar is nothing more than entertainment. Not a sport anymore. Just entertainment!

I guess Helton is now working alongside Vince McMahon!

Nascar = WWE

Hey TS1.....go ahead and watch the NASCAR races as nothing more than entertainment and we will watch it as a sport. Either way we all get entertained.:D Ain't this NASCAR racing stuff fun? :D :D :D
