You can exercise your freedom of speech and not stand, and the coach can exercise his freedom of choice and not play you. Both perfectly logical.

IMO, this is a slightly different scenario because we're talking about a coach of a team that will be representing the United States in the Olympics, but yeah, I can dig it.
