Skinner not to be re-newed? hearing the option on Mile Skinner's contract will not be re-newed for the 2004 season with the #4 Morgan-McClure team, no word on who would take over the driving duties. Been told it would NOT be Eric McClure, who currently runs late models at Lonesome Pine International Raceway in VA and plans to make his ARCA debut in June at Michigan.(6-3-2003)

Kodak to the #1 in 2004? hearing Kodak is considering leaving the #4 Morgan-McClure Motorsports team at the end of the season [but last I heard they were signed thru 2005??] and will end up on the #1 DEI Chevy in 2004, who is possibly looking for a sponsor as past rumors [see #1 Team News and Links page] have Pennzoil leaving at the end of 2003. Current driver, Jeff Green [except for the road courses when Ron Fellows takes over] is signed thru September. Some rumors have 2-time IRL champ in the #1 in a few races late this season and maybe in 2004, but some of those rumors were wrapped around his link with Pennzoil, his sponsor in the IRL. Some rumors put Dixie Pottery as the #4 sponsor or assoc sponsor in 2004.(6-3-2003)

I would be really surprised if Pennzoil bailed in NASCAR, are they considering leaving Panther racing also?

No big suprise with Skinner possibly out at the end of the year! The suprise I see is Kodak possibly leaving! I know Kodak has been with that team for many many years back in the late 80's, possibly when the team was started ( not sure when the team started WC)

Where would Pennzoil go? Do you think the Rumor of them going to the 97 is still possible. I have not heard if they have re-singed a contract yet with Rubbermade?

Would Morgan- Mclure be able to find another sponsor? I have never even heard of Dixie Pottery, would they even be able to afford $5-10 million a year?

Not that I know of! They seem pretty happy with the Panther team. But if they can't get a competive engine then I bet pennzoil would leave, since the chevy motors can't win!

Just went looking and Newell-Rubbermaid has singed on the #97 untill 2006. But the 99 is looking for a sponsor for 2004 still!

I would not be at all surprised to see Pennzoil on the #99 car next year.
Who's going to replace Jeff Burton in the 99 then? I don't see Pennzoil going to a driver who hasn't even come close to winning in the last 2 years.

If this is true who's the leading candiate to take over the #1 ride next year? Scott Riggs? Jason Keller? Shane Hmiel?

As opposed to the incredible success PENNZOIL has had in Nascar so far though?Face it:any sponsor that has been thru what DEI put PENNZOIL thru would jump at the chance to team with Burton.I just wish Steve Hmiel would get back where he belongs as well.

That's why they wouldn't go with Jeff Burton, they want someone who's winning right now.

Thats a good point but the question is where?Potentially, the #99 CAN win at least.I just cant picture a more available high quality team for PENNZOIL.They want a winner...but the currect winners all have sponsorship contracts. At least that I can think of?

The answer for them would seem then to go with a team with a more-than-likely chance of becoming a winner again.

 The 99 would be a good choice... first he doesn't run all that bad!!! and second he is an advocate of saftey and with that comes a little bit of air time... It is a shame that Kodak and the 4 are parting but Mike didn't help out that sitution at all... Have you ever notice after a crash he always sez he had a top 5 car and the car was running well!!!

Skinner belongs back in trucks, he has had good rides and never done anything with them. As far as the 4 team losing Kodak, i'm not surprised, that team hasn't won in a long time. They don't get too much exposure running in the middle-to the back of the pack.

I live about 30 minutes away from their race shop.. so I'll drive up there and see if I could replace Skinner for the rest of the season. I've got killer online racing experience! LOL!

Apparently the root of the problem is both the team and Skinner. As you guys know Skinner never did much in the #31 and had personality conflicts with Dale, he has also isolated and placed the blame on his team and crew chief, not good things.

Also another problem with the team has been their refusal to use newer chassis. Remember when Robby was fired after five races driving for the team? Well it wasnt about performance, because he performed well as compared to what Skinner has done in that car. It was because Robby openly criticised that the team was using outdated chassis. Then for one race he drove his own chassis and finished better than what he did in the #4, thats when he was fired.

Im sure that they are still having the same problem, that they are using outdated chassis.

I have to think that Pennzoil would go to a team that has driver debth,Unlike the home they take now. It is all about JR and Budweiser there,Oh I almost forgot Mikey has his big brother sucking enough arse to carry him for a year,or two. DEI,may be speeled DIE when the greed gets done with it. ^_^ Before all you Dale fans get an attitude, this was in no way meant to disrespect the reason that women, and son have the money to do as they are doing to Nascar. That reason is Dale Sr.A man by all rights. ^_^

Sam hornish Jr,(2-time defending IRL Champ) it sounds like!!!

IMO Skinner has been doing much better this year. DOn't know if it is the Pontaic of if its just time together, but they seem to be running better than last year. Still not getting the finishes but numorus times he has been in the top 15 at some point in the race! If they can get the monkey off there back and finish races they could get some decent top 5 or top10 runs!

Remember these are just rumors, so take every thing with a grain of salt! It may or may not happen!

Sorry dude your wrong.

At this point last year Skinner had 8 top 25 finishes.

This year he has 4 top 25 finishes.

Last year at this point he was 28th in points.

This year he is 36th in points.

Not better at all.

Stick a fork in the team, they are done.

I said they were running better! Mot finishing better! They keep getting into trouble thatis not there doing! If he would have been able to finish alot of those races he would have more than 8 top 25s

If DEI was going to get Hornish Jr. I don't think Pennzoil would leave because they sponsor him in the IRL.

Hmmmmmm. Skinner can't do much worse, there are only 4 other regulars under him in points, and he is 1002pts behind

2002 Skinner finished the season 31st, 1914pts behind, I would go for the trucks. Look at Hamilton and Muscrave. Sometimes you have to take a step back to go forward.

Yep my point exactly before badger,Skinners' style of racing is more suited for trucks and he has proven he can win there. IMO he has a tendency to have too many personalty conflicts with the team he is racing for. I've always thought he was arrogant and self centered, not a team player, i not trying to bash him....just a personal observation. ;)

Im not sure if anyone has said this yet but Kodak is denying that they are leaving
