Though Joey Logano was gracious enough not to bash the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing Toyota in which he made his Cup debut Sunday, it's probably fair to say that the quality of the equipment didn't quite match the talent of the young driver.

LoganoLogano, 18, spent the day in the back of the field and finished 32nd, three laps down, thanks to some late-race attrition that actually improved his result.

"Not what I wanted -- that's for sure," said Logano, who will succeed Stewart in the No. 20 Toyota next year. "It was a tough one. We tried hard, but it just wasn't there the whole time.

"We started so far back in the hole trying to get this car good, and we just got close to it [a workable setup] too late."

Logano is scheduled to drive five more Sprint Cup races in 2008, one for Joe Gibbs Racing in the No. 02 Toyota at Atlanta, and four for Hall of Fame Racing in the No. 96 Toyota at Kansas, Charlotte, Martinsville and Texas.

With the 32nd-place finish, the No. 96 Hall of Fame Racing entry remains 39th in the series' owner standings, 262 points behind the 35th-place No. 7 of Robby Gordon Motorsports.

Now if JGR did not help the #96 team with setup (which I doubt) this proves my point, lagano is an ordinary driver in sub-par equipment. Now once again I'm not saying this kid does'nt have talent but apparently he does'nt have the talent to take a sub-par team and showcase his talent.

You're only as good as your team.

The 96 team as a whole needs help.

When he's back in the 02, we'll have a better answer

But i've liked the tony/joey commercials so far. As least home depot still likes tony. I wonder if they'll go to the 14 as an associate maybe?

I doubt Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards or Kyle Busch could get in that car and do any better.

so you're gonna tell me that was'nt the 02 car? Sure did look like the 02 car but only with a 96 on it and DLP on the quarters.

A great driver can do more with a bad car than a bad driver can, but he isn't going to turn a slow car into a fast one.

As Dale Jr is fond of saying "You can't make chicken salad out of chicken $hit"

He was driving an JGR racecar --- built in the JGR shop. Only the number and sponsor were changed. However, he was using a 96 team.
Ok so he would lose some spots in the pits, the car on the other hand should of been in the same shape as the other JGR cars(with exception to shrub)now I wish they would of replaced the 96 team with the 02 team so there would'nt be no excuses. What I'm looking for here is for him or JGR to say "joey is young and has alot to learn about these cup cars and it's gonna take some time"

Aw gee, his first cup race and he didn't win,,,,cry me a river. There was a time when you weren't even considered for a cup ride until your late 20's early 30's, by then owners thought you might have enough " 'sperience" (that's a DW word :)) to put you in their car.

I could give a krap he was champ in go-karts or mini-bikes or whatever when he was 6. This is the top tier of the sport and kids are running the show.

Most of the 'future of NA$CAR' can't expain why it blow'd up other than to say "something in the engine I think". They haven't a clue on how to build and then repair a race car. We didn't buy cars and engines and have someone put it together for us. We build our cars and engines too. When it broke we found out why so it didn't happen again. We made do with parts scrounged out of the junk yard, not made on a multi-million dollar in house CNC machine.

I am so fed up with the direction NA$CAR is heading that I'm considering taking up championship ping-pong as my sport,,followed closely by drinking.:beerbang: Heavily.
