Twitter hit by denial of service attack
The popular social networking site Twitter has been hit by a denial of service attack, according to Twitter co-founder Biz Stone. In an e-mail to CNN.com, Stone said this morning's attack is not related to a recent incident in which a hacker stole internal documents from the site. Twitter's site went down around 9:30 a.m. ET. A message posted on Twitter's status blog said the site was active again by 11:30 a.m., but that the site remained under attack. full story

The real story came yesterday with Rand Paul announcing his official run for the US Senate next year.

Typical of CNN that something like some 'Twitter' news would be prevalent.

Whatever 'Twitter' is.

I hate Twitter.

I really don't need to know on a minute-by-minute basis what my friends are up to. I don't need to know at 2am that Paula Abdul won't be on a show I never cared about in the first place. I don't care how many followers a celebrity has, and I'm pretty sure this is how cults start. Everything it offers I need less of in my life.

I'm with Kid Rock on my feelings about Twitter:

Kid Rock said:
It's g*y. If one more person asks me if I have a Twitter, I'm going to tell them: 'Twitter this [bleep], mother[bleep]er.'

It amazes me how quickly twitter got so big. Any I like using it to check for quick WoO Late Model updates about rain. They always update it before their website.

what's the difference between twitter and communal stalking? if someone wants to know when i go to the bathroom they can ask the nsa.

A lot of websites offer info feeds via Twitter now.

As a tech geek, a part of me wants for this to be cool and useful. But it's not. At some point, it just becomes information overload. Sure, I can sign up for this Twitter feed, and that feed. But then it just amounts to spam.

I saw this same thing happen 15 years ago with e-mail. It's a new and easy way to communicate, but now it's almost a chore. For every 1 e-mail I get that's something I care about, there are 20 or more that are about extending my manhood, and cheap perscription meds.

Within 5 years more people will be getting spam via Twitter than actual messages. All this social networking crap is overrated. There is such a thing as being too easy to contact.

Besides, the more people I meet the more I like my computer. :beerbang:

Twitter: I'm drinking my glass of cranberry juice this morning.

Twitter: Well I've finished drinking my glass of cranberry juice so I think I'll go brush my teeth.

Twitter: I've finished brushing my teeth now I'm going to watch the news.

Twitter: The weather girl on Channel 3 is really cute.

You mean stuff like that. Yeah I can do without it as well.

People who "get" Twitter don't use it like that. Anyone who does use it like that is bound to either "get" it quick, or lose their audience.

I personally wish the celebrities didn't come into the picture. It was easier back then. Now every Oprah, Ashton, and Ellen fan is hopping onto the site with no clue what it actually means, and the first thing they can think of is to post meaningless crap.

The best part about it is you don't get spam unless you fall for the spammers' trap. You only see a feed of posts from the people you decided to follow (unless you fell for the equally crap Twitter "suggested follows").

I follow people with a track record of insightful, interesting, or amusing posts, and I try to make my posts perform to that standard as well.
