Slugger Labbe and Evernham Motorsports parted ways after Labbe asked to be reassigned from his job as crew chief for Jeremy Mayfield at the end of the season. As of Sunday, Labbe had three crew chief job offers and expected to make a decision this week. There were rumors Tommy Baldwin, crew chief for Mayfield's teammate Kasey Kahne, wanted out, too. Baldwin said he's not going anywhere.

I didn't get to watch the race yesterday, but I did get to listen to the very early parts on the radio and when they asked Jeremy about Slugger's leaving, it sounded like the parting of ways was not very sociable. Looks like loyalty is a big part of Ray's thinking. I've also heard that Baldwin was looking elsewhere, but then again, he isn't. I wonder if there might something else going on at the shops that we just don't know about.

If I were a crew chief, which of course I'm not, one of the last places I would want to work is Evernham. Ray just can't let go. At least on camera. Never gives credit to his crew chiefs. I suspect it's no different in the shop. When the cameras are rolling, he's always ready. No different from the old days.

But, it's easy for me to say. :)

that sux for mayfield
but maybe he will get another crew chief and do even better

I like Jeremy.....wish him luck. It's tough when you lose a team member suddenly like that....have heard that Jeremy said he never saw it coming.

I have heard just the opposite about Evernham, that he is a great guy to work and drive for. i happened to meet him in Vegas this spring , he was staying at the Monte Carlo where my wife and I were, he seemed just like a regular guy to me.

I can't seem to get a handle on Ray......when he was crew chief for
JG he seemed nicer...now he seems frustrated all the time.....suppose
being an owner will do that to you though. When he agreed to never be a crew chief again--I was totally baffled by that..........
