•Smaller restrictor plate for Dega: Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody has learned that NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams have been notified that they will be using a 7/8 inch diameter restrictor plate in next month's event at Talladega. That represents a 1/64 reduction from what was used in the season-opening Daytona 500. Cooling system regulations will remain the same as at Daytona, with maximum air inlets mandated at three inches high by 20 inches wide.(Sirius Speedway)(3-24-2011)

I don't know enough about restrictor plate racing to understand what this means. Does it just mean slower speeds or the return to the big packs?

Have they done this before? (meaning...maybe they don't know what the heck it will do ) Thanks.

Talladega. Bar none - my all time favorite track on the NASCAR circuit.

Growing up as a kid in the late 70's and early 80's with no cable, I honestly thought the good 'ole boys ran only 4 times a year - Daytona (CBS), Michigan (CBS), Talladega (CBS)and Daytona (Firecracker 400, Wide World of Sports, ABC) again. I'd check the t.v. guide and make sure I wouldn't miss these races. Guess what? Nothing's changed.

Yeah, racing on the 2.66 mile monster was different. But still, some things remain. The drama, the three wide racing, and the close finishes. I find myself on the edge of my couch from start to finish, most of the time.

I can't remember what crash it was recently (Carl Edwards?) that had some folks in an uproar and calling for the Talladega banking to be knocked down. I won't even lend credibility to those "fans" by even commenting on that.

I love Talladega. And if you're not a fan of this, then to each his own.
