So what was all this hype about ESPN coming back to the sport?

Cause IMO they suck. Alot of the analysis sucks, Tim Brewer sucks, the guys in the booth do the best they can to kiss each others rear end. More then a few missed restarts. I just do not like what I am seeing. When was the last time we missed victory lane coverage. Hell they were so quick to get off the air they did not even show Carl do his backflip. They'd better not think about bringing their weak A$$ broadcast to the Nextel Cup level without making some huge improvements.

I gotta agree with you on most of your points. I can say right now that I'm already tired of Rusty Wallace. I think that Brewer is a breath of fresh air though. Brent as the anchor. He's nothing but a stick and ball announcer. But I guess we have to get used to it or stop watching.

Brewer is.....well...i dont care for any of them except rusty and petree.

You know, there will never be a time when everyone likes who is doing the announcing. But I do remember a long time ago, there was a time when I did pretty much like everyone that was involved with the show, back when ESPN started it all. Bob Jenkins and Larry Nuber did a great job, but Larry was never a favorite of the critics and he ended up going elsewhere and doing ASA and lower circuit races. Larry died some time ago and I don't think any of the announcers even aknowledged it. I must admit that I did like Ken Squire for a while, but the older he got, the worse he got. The problem is getting a total crew that works well together. We might not like the lineup at FOX, but they work well together and that's what's important. And well yes, they have to have at least some sort of popularity.

I snoozed on and off during the broadcast during the seemingless no end ads.

ESPN's music and graphics package is awesome, but their commentary is weak. Put Bestwick or Mike Mussaro in the booth.

And Brad Daughtry! WHAT A JOKE!!!! :D :D :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL: :XXROFL:

Brent Musburger is solid, hell he's better than Dr. Punch.

TNT is where it's at. I like Weber, Dallenbach and most of TNT. Plus, they'rte supposedly bringing in Lindsay Czarniak. Barelypure, if you think Krista Voda is something on the eyes, wait 'til you see Ms. Czarniak. Whew. :growl:

I think that Wally is the best on all the networks, his knowledge and dry humor work well with the other guys in the booth. From what i've seen of ESPN this year they are no different than the other networks in there coverage. I'll have to say after watching some of the IRL race last night, i really like the option of watching what is going on during a commercial. I know Nascar won't do this, but i think it is great.

By the time Jaws gets around to hoarking out "Bristol Stomp" I'd take take any other announcer out there.

Maybe ESPN did the show but keep in mind it was broadcast on ABC national network.

The race was shown in its entirety.
ABC must consider they have programming lineups for local and world news and they do try to follow these as long as the race has ended since it screws up programming for the remainder of the evening and local sponsors.

Besides, the only thing that takes place during the post race show are dumb-ass burnouts, the throwing of beer or soda plus the conventional "I gotta thank my crew and sponsors. They are awesome."

For viewers into watching back flips, they might try surfing channels for a gymnastics show.

You can't please all of the people, all of the time.

I'm just grateful that we get the races on TV. There are times when I wish the talking heads would just shut up and let us watch, but beggars can't be chosers --- so I'll take what I can get.

And there is a major news story for them to cover. This thing with Iran is going to lead to war there.

People still watch network news? I know what it was. It was the before they were celebrities rerun and the movie Coyote Ugly they just had to show.

Ehh, a Krista Voda wannabee.
What we need is when there is a rain delay let's let a wet tshirt contest settle the debate... :D

It's funny to read a comment by one person that says they like announcer X and don't like announcer Z, but another person likes announcer Z and doesn't like announcer X. It's a matter of personal preference.

When ABC/ESPN announced their announcing lineup, I said then people would be greatly disappointed in the new ESPN coverage. I like Dr. Punch personally, he's a nice person and knows the sport. But he is dull as a lead announcer. I would have preferred to have seen Punch be the pre-race host and either Bestwick as play-by-play announcer or bring back Bob Jenkins.

I thought the signing of Rusty Wallace was abig hit for ESPN when it was announced. But after a few races, I am not impressed with what he brings to the table.

I thought I would be the only person who thought that Dr. Punch should not be the lead announcer. I loved him in the pits. Never thought of him being the host. That might be a good idea. And yes, Rusty sounded good from the beginning, but it didn't take two races for me to not care for him. I also caught him last year on a couple of IRL races. Didn't care for him there either. I'd love to see Bob Varsha, only with a hair cut, be the lead. :) Has anyone see Bob's do? Somewhere between a hippy and a skin head. :D

I love having Dr Jerry Punch back, I remember him from when ESPN covered races before.

Brent Musburger (sp?) is a breath of fresh air. I love some college football so it's like he's a familiar face.

Rusty Wallace is pathetic. I've said it before, but he talks like someone has his balls in a f*ckin' vice or something.

Mike Massaro is decent.

Bestwick is good.

The guy that does the stuff w/the cutaway has no life to him whatsoever.
