Newman made his thoughts about his pit crew know the other night.

After the race last Saturday night, Newman was very clear what he thought about his pit crew and there performance. With that being said, there are a lot of things to keep in mind and we wanted to mention a few of them.

1st. There is an old saying, “Dance with the one you brought”. One bad stop doesn’t define you as a crew and shouldn’t. These guys have been part of the #39 team all year and should be now.

2nd. Neither the #14 or #10 made the Chase and both teams have very strong pit crews. There is no rule that says you can’t switch teams before a race or even in the middle of one. It will be very interesting to see what SHR decides to do.

3rd. Coach Joe Piette is a very stand up guy and an ex pit crew member for more than 15 years. He understands what Crewmen go through and realizes what his team is or is not capable of doing under this kind of pressure. No matter what happens, this will not be a one man decision.

4th. If the #39 crew stays with the team, and we all should assume they will for now, how will they react to the post race interview comments. Will they hold a grudge or will they get after if like nothing happened. Its hard to un-hear something.

There are a lot of decisions to be made over the next few days at SHR. Every team has had bad stops this year at some point and some just happen at a worse time than others. We stand by our statement that one stop doesn’t define you as a pit crew or pit crew member. Whatever happens this week will likely be involving many people at SHR and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

What do you think they'll do? Consolidate the crew using the best of the best?

I'm thinking that these guys are going to step up their game and they stick with what got them there.

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with him making or not making the Chase and the reasons why. Please take that talk here.

I have a feeling the team knows very well that they failed on that last stop and that Ryan has every right to be angry with them. Those guys are pros, so I think they will respond. You don't get to this level being mediocre and sloppy all the time.

Yep, and if they take offense to his comments then they don't deserve their spot on the team.

I heard a lot worse than what Newman said the other night about his crew.

Kyle Bush was pi$$ed as all heck the other night at his crew and went off on a little tirade once again. Little if nothing was said about that.

I agree with TRL, and comments were made during a highly stressful moment.
Newman made a mistake with the comments, but if a person wants to perform at their best they have to set those grudges aside. If not it becomes a bigger focus than taking care of business or fast pit stops.

Who ever said winning is the best revenge was right. Become a better man, show the world you can gitRdone, and everything else will take care of itself.

I would agree that Newman's comments were uncalled for if say he went in 2nd and came out 2nd at the last pit stop and then complained that is crew wasn't good enough to get him the lead in the pits. Facts are he went in 1st and came out what? 5th? So yeah, he was justified.

edit: I do know some drivers took 2, but he still should have been the first car with 4 new tires.

Someone needs to tell Newman that you win as a team and you lose as a team. Pointing fingers just makes him look like a sore loser.

I'm actually a little surprised they hadn't consolidated the best guys for the 39 team. I understand the chemistry aspect of it but what the heck are Mark and Danica racing for?

Anyone remember a couple years back when the 48 and 24 switched pitcrews MIDRACE? The 48 crew botched a stop so they switched the whole crew right there in the middle of the damn race! Talk about a kick in the nuts for the 48 crew.

Newman's comments about the last stop weren't over the top, they were pretty matter of fact. I don't see why the crew would begrudge him for that.

And Kyle's rant during the race was directed more towards the crew chief than towards the crew from what I heard from the radio replay.

I didn't have a problem with what Newman said. it was heat of the moment and he hadn't made the chase, how can you be a championship contending team if you miss the chase? You can't.

If those guys want to keep working on a top a flight team going beyond this year, they have to step it up just like Newman did at Richmond.

I agree, but that is something that should be addessed back at the shop on Monday morning.

The only time I don't think the crew had their driver's back was when Denny Hamlin threw his crew under the bus at Phoenix a few years back for losing the championship even though he was still the points leader.

I'd like to see the 14 over the wall crew go to the 39 only makes sense to me and other teams have done it before. 39 is the only SHR car in The Chase! The 14 is completely out of it with Stewart's broke leg and the 10 car just needs more barebond hangers. I think after the way things have turned out for Newman at SHR here lately they owe it to him to give him the best of what they have and Totally Concentrate all their efforts on the 39 for the rest of the season.

Yeah, the #78 crew is the one I could see being replaced, but where does a single-car team get a second crew?

Hopefully his comments lit a fire under the crew's ass and the guys will come out and prove themselves at Chicago.
