The starting field was 43 cars. The pole speed was 172.414. The last car in the field on time was AJ at 168.596. Three drivers used provisionals to make the grid. Lake Speed @ 168.429; Harry Gant @ 168.033; Mike Chase @ 166.312.

that just so neat---and dang a lot of cars didnt qualify, maybe you could do a little bit of this every race for us its pretty intersting :)

I remember the story from the very first test stock cars did at Indy. The cars were lined up to go on the track by number --- starting with Rusty, with you-know-who right behind him. Rusty said that DE durn near ran his ass over because he wanted to lead the very first lap turned by a stock car ---- DE did. :)

I know that DE tried his damndest to lead the first race lap, too. But didn't. :(

DANG 44 cars went home and 43 started. so 87 cars at the track i don't even think you can find 87 cars now!!!!!
Now that i rember that qual day was ne long day with a lot of hard rain as well but they got it in.

Cant wait for qualifying! Gonna be really exciting. I would not be surprised if a regular gets sent home. All it takes is One of those tourists, to get a good lap, and for a regular to have a bad one.

That's a lot of cars that missed the race. Just about as many that try to make a race now. Lol.

Good stats HardScramble, somebody's been doing their homework.
