Some fantasies that NASCAR might want to consider.

1. Instead of making a car with a dissavantage better with an inch here or an inch there, take a little something away from the car that has the advantage. This will still even out the field, but it will not make them so aerodynamic that it takes the driver out of the equation. leave some imperfections in the cars. Take some spoiler or tire away from the cars.

2. Run an engine based on the production models. Not too many car models are coming out with carberated V-8s anymore. The teams should be running an engine based on a stock model from vehicle make that they are running. The horsepower may drop off some, but that will also be better for the sport.

3.Have the first 30 cars qualify on time or a handycap system like they use in the ESS (Empire Super Sprints). Then let 12 more cars qualify through 2 or 3 heat races. Finally save one provisional for the driver with the highest points total that was not able to qualify through his time or one of the heat races. These heats can be run the same day as qualifying.

4. Allow a committee of drivers and crewchiefs to determine the penalties for rule infractions and rough driving.

5. Eliminate the number of races a year by 15%. Don't return to the same tracks every year. You may not get to every track in one year, but you can get to more tracks over the course of two years allowing for a bigger variety of tracks. Run the Allstar event at a different track every year. You could also feature The Trucks, Modifieds, Busch Series or the Dash series in differnt combos every year as a support class to the allstar event, bringing these classes more exposure.

6. Run an Australian Pursuit race at least once a year. That can also be part of the all star weekend.

Hmmmm, you want to change NASCAR? I just don't think they're gonna do it. This thing is way too successful to make that kind of a change. Maybe when there is no one watching, they will change, but even then, I doubt it. Instead, how about we getting someone to televise the ARCA series and we will see a lot of differences. :)

Rebuttal:

1. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought the point of a car race was to build the fastest one you could within the rules. If someone else's heap can't keep up with mine, I think it's on them to catch up, not on me to slow down.

2. Again, I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that these races were intended to go fast, as fast as possible.

3. No argument here. However they want to set the starting line up is fine with me, so long as we don't see a full season like The Winston. Drop the flag, NASCAR, then get out of the way.

4. Gimme some of whatever that is yer smoking. You can't be serious. You want to really open the sport up to allegations of fixing? Let Robby Gordon sit on the committee that decides if Kevin Harvick is a rough driver. Let Jeff Burton be part of the process that decides if Ward Burton was out of line when he punches Junior's lights out. (OK, that's a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea...plus it felt SO GOOD to type that!)

5. Gimme some more of that stuff yer smoking. NASCAR is gonna REDUCE the number of races on the most popular series it has? Think about that which thou art saying, young grasshoppah. Here's a thought: Let's take 15% of YOUR salary away...that would provide more incentive to produce every week, now wouldn't it?

Not picking on you, my good man. Just voicing some conflicting opinions. As always, I stand ready to take whatever verbal slings and arrows may come my way. :beerchug:

TN, I'll rebuttal your rebuttal( not that I really know what that means) Just let me explain myself here.

1. Winston Cup is becoming more and more like the IRL. The cars are becoming so they do not even resemble a production car. If I had my way, I would run a completly stock body and not change the rules at all during the course of the year. If one car has a big advantage, make changes under the hood if any changes are made at all. If one car has an aero advantage over a car that has a hp advantage, you could see some pretty good racing.

2. If these cars were intended to go as fast as possible, we wouldn't need restrictor plates at the super speedways. With all the cars basically becoming identical in appearance, one way to seperate models would be to run an engine that is currently being used. For example, Ford could run the 3.0 v-6 that is currently coming with the Taurus, Dodge could run any number of there 6 cyls. like the 3.5 that currently comes with the Intrepid. The Monte Carlo comes with 3.4 or a 3.8 6 cyl and the Grand Prix come with a 3.8 6 cyl. Advantages of these engines are that they are much lighter than the V-8s and they are what is being put on the road in todays cars witch are what they are supposed to be racing. You can also tune the 6 cyls. up to 500 t0 700 hp so the loss in hp isn't all that great.

4. Much like the controversy when NASCAR allowed Sterlin Marlin to not be penalized when he went speeding down pit road in the 3rd or 4th week of the season. It is a committee, kind of like Democracy as opposed to dictatership. Robby wouldn't be passing judgment on his peers as much as his peers would be passing judgment on Robby Gordon.

I just think the season is a bit to long and there is not enough variety of tracks. Do we really need to races at loudon? I do not think so as well as Pocono and any number of 1 and 1/2 mile speedways.

Know offense taken TNW. Just my opinion on how I could unintentionally mess up a good thing. I have been none to be wrong.
