I know that many of you express your hatred for the racing of today and the COT but this info doesn't look all that bad IMO.

I saw this on Jayski.....

* 7 different teams represented in the current NASCAR Sprint Cup top 12
* 8 different Coors Light Pole winners
* 34 drivers with at least one top-10 finish
* 40 drivers have led at least one lap
* Average Margin of Victory of 1.044 seconds
* 10 races with an MOV under 1 second
* Average of 11 leaders per race
* Average of 20 lead changes per race
* Average of 22 green flag passes for the lead all around the track
* Average of 3,038 green flag passes per race
* 52% of the cars finished on the lead lap
* 85% of the cars were running at the finish
* All four manufacturers have won a race and are in the top 12

After the CoT was implemented full time last year, there were also stats pretty close to this.

I for one think that the CoT is a good thing. It might not be perfect, and I'd like to see NASCAR let the teams make adjustments to it, but it has brought a better level of parity to the sport.

I think hatred is a strong word, more like major disappointment with Nascar racin'.
Really?

All complaints about this and that aside, this has been the best season of NASCAR racing in a very long time imo.

Most folks are too focused on the TV coverage of the races.

If there's great racing going on and the TV coverage shows us Jimmie Johnson, and only Jimmie Johnson, it's going to irritate people and it gives off an impression that there's nothing going on unless you're glued to Trackpass.

Agreed. The lack of coverage for the field has caused me to lose interest. I only watch when I have nothing else to do now. I don't have time to glue myself to trackpass or racebuddy.

Look at ESPN's coverage. In Cup, it's all Jimmie Johnson. In Nationwide, it's all Kyle Busch and Joey Logano.

The teams that run up front are the ones that get featured on the racing broadcasts.
It's not the ones running up front.

Last year at Texas, Montoya got the lead on the second lap passing the pole sitter and ESPN NEVER mentioned it because they were showing Jimmie Johnson who was 8th at the time. Then someone passed Montoya to take the lead and ESPN was still showing us the 48 car.

It's not showing "the leader" it's them showing only the 48 car. And I don't care if it's about the points, they substitute good racing to show us the Chase contenders (the whole 48 car since he had it wrapped up at that point) when the championship would've been closer the past two seasons without a crappy welfare points system.

"Nothing's changed in the points, Jimmie Johnson still has a 129 point lead (which would've 10 points in Flipper's favor under the old format:rolleyes:) so let's show you his car the next 40 laps while you miss some perfectly good racing for the lead just in case Johnson loses 5 or 10 points on his championship lead."

Anyways, back to the subject at hand. I really think this has been the best year in a long time. First time winners, different drivers winning, closer points race. Every week there are 15 cars that could win a race, whereas the past few years you pretty much knew it would either be Jimmie, Kyle, Carl or Jeffie.

Points race should be fun this year. Tony gets red hot during July and August and usually knocks off a ton of wins, and he won a ton of Chase races in 2006. But, Jimmie Johnson just has a way of pulling championships out of his ass.

I give credit where credit is due. Kudos to NASCAR for the Double File Restarts. It's working. With the exception of Michigan (Jesus Christ himself couldn't make a California or Michigan race exciting), every race has been that much better.

Interesting stats but I have a bit of trouble with some of them (Not doubting you; I read the same thing on jayski.com also)

* 34 drivers with at least one top-10 finish
Half of the 34 represent only four, or five (depending on how you look at things) team owners

* Average Margin of Victory of 1.044 seconds
* 10 races with an MOV under 1 second

These figure are easier to manipulate when you have "debris cautions" and other caution flags in the final laps of a race.

* Average of 11 leaders per race
* Average of 20 lead changes per race

Now many of these were accomplished in the pits, vice on the track and under green flag conditions.

* Average of 3,038 green flag passes per race
When a person considers the number of variables which can result in a pass on the track, I don't see the relevance of this stat?

* 52% of the cars finished on the lead lap
The Lucky Dawg Rule skews this figure quite a bit.

* 85% of the cars were running at the finish
How many of those noted as running were competitively racing and how many were "rolling wrecks," out there just to collect a few more points?

But the stats were interesting. Thanks for posting them.

It some how amazes me how every thread on this board either turns into about "TV Coverage" or a "Kyle hate fest"!

Anyway, I think the first half of the year has been pretty awsome, but then again I would watch it if the same guy had won every race..what can I say..I just love Nascar!

Hmmm.. I thought it was more of a Kyle "LOVE FEST." ;)

I've enjoyed the season as well, but I have to admit there's been quite a few times the races were really boring in the middle. I'm also one of those people who will watch anyway. :D
