Busted again.....

NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver John Wes Townley was charged with driving under the influence after crashing his 2012 BMW into a telephone pole in Georgia, the Athens Banner-Herald reported Friday.

The incident, which occurred early Tuesday morning, came to the attention of the Oconee County Sheriff's Department when a 911 call reported "a suspicious man knocking on the back door of a home" at 4:30 a.m.

Sheriff's deputies arrived to find a disoriented Townley "swaying from side to side and bleeding from his bare feet," the report said. Townley was arrested and charged with DUI and weaving in the roadway.

The newspaper said deputies found blood on the seat of the car, which had its airbags deployed in the crash.

Townley's incident could be a blow to the 22-year-old's NASCAR comeback. The son of Zaxby's co-founder Tony Townley is attempting to revive his career with RAB Racing, which formerly fielded Nationwide cars for the driver.

RAB Racing declined comment when contacted by SB Nation.

I'm just happy that most Meth heads stay home and hide their high. If we could get heavy drinkers to do the same, the world would be a better place.

Always sad to see a young man blow the chances that he has. So many great young drivers out there who never get a chance.Hopefully Zaxbys will stay in racing.

I'm starting to wonder what the 'smoke' in smoke14 really means. ;)

I have been a medic for over thirty years and was a SWAT medic up until a few years ago so I have to keep up with the illicit stuff.

I've never seen great young driver used to mean Jon Wes Townley before.

You made me go back and read my post .I called John Wes a young man . I said in the next line that there were many great young drivers out there that deserved a chance . Next time I will put two periods between my sentences.

Thankfully reading comprehension is not a requirement to join or participate in this forum......keep in mind it IS a racing forum.

I bash stick and ball atheletes all the time for being stupid making lotsa money and getting in trouble, I guess it has transended into NASCAR. Well guess it has always been here, but what's up with these wet behind the ears generation who ain't got a clue? Your getting paid to drive a fast souped up car, can't you find someone sober to drive you stupid self around?

Update.....

NASCAR places John Wes Townley on probation rest of the year. Must be evaluated by certified substance abuse professional.

or..... He could take the Mayfield approach. :(

If he was driving a Chevy, he could talk to Middlebrook. :D

I love starting this stuff.

Can anyone recall Big E, Rusty, Rudd, DJ, Martin, DW, getting a DUI? I do remember Mikey smoking a pole a couple of years ago. Any others?
It seems the "Young Guns" have cornered the market on traffic offenses,DUI's and drug charges.

Didn't Randy Lajoie fail a drug test a couple of years ago? Smoked a joint with some fans after a race or something.

Mikey did wreck his SUV a while back but was never cited (or maybe "sighted", I dunno...).

It wasn't that long ago when policemen would tell a drunk driver to "be careful getting home" or possibly even drive the offender home themselves. That was before MADD and Instant Media coverage.

I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I'm just saying that it's a different world now...
