(May 15) - Wayman Tisdale, a three-time All-American at Oklahoma who played 12 seasons in the NBA, has died after a two-year battle with cancer. He was 44.

Tisdale died about 8 a.m. Friday at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, hospital spokeswoman Joy McGill said.
After three years at Oklahoma, the 6-foot-9 Tulsa native spent 12 seasons in the NBA with the Indiana Pacers, Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns, then became an award-winning jazz musician, with several of his albums making the top 10 on the Billboard charts.

Waymon was one of my favorite bass players when it came to Jazz. He was a real talent and a very positive, hard working and talented man.
Since I don't follow basketball, I never knew he had played in the NBA or had a previous career. Only that I loved his music and his talent.

RIP Waymon

As both an OU fan and a fan of jazz, I knew Tis very well. Not many professional athletes have accomplished what this man did. WWT will sorely be missed. BTW, WWT is what many called him during his college years, Wonderful Wayman Tisdale. RIP big guy.

This is a shame. He was so young and so gifted and so universally liked this leaves a big hole.

Wayman was a great player and a really gifted musician.

His music is really good. I encourage any jazz fans out there to check some of his stuff out.
