South Boston Speedway

I went there in '99 with pit passes. I actually hung out with Dale, Jr for a while and talked with him most of the morning. It was after his first BGNC and he wasn't surrounded by a lot of people like he is today. Kerry Earnhardt was there too and I talked to him also. Buckshot Jones was there, Matt Kenseth, Randy Lajoie and Kevin Grubb. All were really nice and didn't mind talking, except Lajoie....he was a jerk.

It was a good race too....Jr won the pole and led most of the race. He bumped a lapped car that wouldn't get out of his way and got black flagged. I can't remember who won....might have been Kenseth.

Actually, It might have been in '98....My memory is getting fuzzy. I'll have to dig up my pictures and ticket stub.....Seems like there was a fight in the pits too after the race.

Thanks. I've heard SoBo is a real nice track. It's always exciting to visit a track you've never been to before! :beerbang:

Of course, I just love racing!

Season opener, perfect weather predicted, and racing! :)

Has anyone ever been to SoBo before?

I went there last year for the K&N Pro Series east and Southern Modified Tour races. Was expecting some really great racing but there was actually very little passing... Was still a fun track though. Pretty decent facility, i'm sure you will have a good time!

Not to hijack the thread but how do you like the K&N Pro Series East toledo?

I've been meaning to drive up to Greenville-Pickens raceway and they are racing there on 26 March. I like going to the smaller tracks and G-P has a lot of history behind it.

They have a full weekly local schedule but I thought it might be more fun to see a series race.

Went to SoBo a couple of years ago to see the mods run. Nice track, but I don't recall anything special about it. I do remember though that when we pulled into the parking lot, a guy approached us with some free tickets to get in. Now you can't beat that.

OK ill sound like the dork i guess.......

Ive been there hundreds of times in iRacing cause its such a fun track to drive on that sim.

But seriously i would love to travel out there to see it.

I saw the K&N cars are going to Bowman Gray this year too id love to go see that with the big heavy cars on that little track.

Really great series, I highly reccommend it. I went to 5 of the east races last year and 3 west and they were all great (with 1 exception, Gresham, due to the terrible track clean up crew..). They always put on a great show and the tickets are always a great deal, usually $10-20. I went to the Greenville race in 2009, had a great time.

Where did you see or read about this? BTW, though they are not the K&N cars, limited late models race there every week. Personally I prefer the full fendered cars to the mods, but the mods are so much more powerful. Much more paint traded with the full fendered cars.

Yeah i knew the mods were top dog there and the late models i can see getting around there. But i would bet they dont have to weight over 3000 pounds. The K&N east cars i thought gotta weigh 3400 pounds. Those should be a handful wheeling around that little track.

I don't know the weight of the limited late models that race at the stadium, but remember this, NASCAR's top series raced there many years ago so there has been racing with heavy cars on the track. BTW, not sure how many cars start a normal K&N race, but I believe the track limits the number of cars to 24. Now they might change that for a special race but who knows.

It will go by the K&N Pro Series rule book. Not sure how many cars that is though.

There was a lot of crashing in this one.

Peyton Sellers won.

Bologna burgers are pretty tasty.

Natalie Sather (a lot of people asked me about her) is quite good.

I miss peyton sellers as a K&N regular. I still remember the race where he roughed up logano at irwindale and logano retaliated and won the race then got a dq cause of it.
