Southeast Gasoline Shortage

ARCA just issued a bulletin:
I've heard that some gas stations around Talladega have a limited supply of gas. Please keep that in mind if you're travelling to the races this weekend.

I was able to get mid-grade gas this afternoon on my down to Talladega about 30 miles north of the track, but some of our officials mentioned that some stations did not have all grades of gas available and the prices are increasing.

We canceled out trip this weekend to Myrtle Beach to see George Jones because we couldn't be sure we would be able to get gas to make it back hom. South Carolina is said to be the last state to get the gas.

That sucks. Woulda been a helluva show.

I spoke with my mom night before last, they live in Shallotte about 35 miles N or MB, and the gas situation is fine. Acutally she said the gas prices are $3.68 a gallon and the stations were only out about a day and a half the Friday and Saturday of Ike. So, if you can make it that far then go.
Oh, and stop in Burlington on the way. We had to go to CLT Tuesday and I paid $3.53 on the way back.

I wanted to make sure I had enough gas in my car so I could get home from the shop and back again on Friday. I live 70 miles from my shop but only go up there when I have to pick up a rig.

So I took an empty 5 gallon container with me on the trailer and filled up in WV on the way home from Kansas. I used that to fill up the car and now I can get back to the shop tomorrow. This next trip is to Pa. so I will fill it up again up there with premium (my 94 Del Sol VTEC burns premium but gets 30 mpg) and I will have gas again to come back home on Monday.

Gotta do what you gotta do in order to get back and forth to work. Hopefully the problem will easy in the next week or two.

BTW, my company GMC dually has a 100 gal aux tank in the bed so I filled up in northern Va. off of I-77 and I have plenty of fuel to make it up to Pa. and half way back.

And when I filled up in Kansas this past weekend, it was $3.26 for regular.

I know some places are out of gas. But I think this has been overblown. When Ike hit, there were rumors we'd be out of gas here in Knoxville and prices would be $5 a gallon. The day before Ike hit, everyone rushed to the stations that many did run out and it did drive the price up to $5 a gallon. The thing about it was an hour away in any direction, there were no shortages and no dramatic price increases like we saw. The whole situation was pathetic. I'm not saying places around Talladega, Atlanta, and SC still have gas, some don't. But certain people make this out to be worse than it is to get people to panic, which drives up the prices. Don't fall for it.

And this same thinking could be applied to the financial mess and the bailout as well, IMO.
