Some years ago, I asked a professor what black holes were and he hemmed and hawed and never answered my question. These days, a professor would have a qualified answer to my question. So now I ask, what about a "white" hole? How about a "worm" hole? Do these exist? I would venture to say I would get the same answer that I got many years ago.

Now black holes and to some degree, white holes along with worm holes are old news. These days physists are working on totally different things. New we hear of multi-universes. Wha? Yep, there are now thoughts that our universe, everything that we know, smell, hear and think might be just a part of the overall scheme of things. Move aside Eveny Horizon, let's find the next universe.

When one looks at just our own universe, one can see the enormity of it all. Then when you think about nano technology, well things can get completely our of skelter for the human mind. We might believe that the micro-tech is small, nano as we have named it, but humanity and everything that we know could very well be nano technical to something else.

Science is so very interesting to me and I have always enjoyed reading and studying astronomy and our universe. But it wasn't until I heard the term Event Horizon and knew what it was that I really decided to study our universe. It's hard to imagine that everything that I know, see and can hear is just a very small peep in the entire thing of things. Maybe we are but "atoms" in the scheme of things that is rules by super natural beings that are so far beyond our imagination that we really don't have control. Now wouldn't that be something?

Those holes are just to deep for my weary brain tonight.

I hear you, buck. Just think, our universe could be nothing more than a bit of lint in someone's pocket.
Yeah, but when you step back and think about the overall scheme of things, stepping on a but just makes you wonder if there could be someone or something out there that could step on us just the same way.

We as humans only have what we have experienced to compare everything to. When you finally get an understanding that a black hole is so powerful that it won't let light out, yet can be as small as our Earth or even smaller, you begin to see just what exists out there. We always fantasize that beings from another planet have human like appearances but the movie Star Wars could be much more closer to real life, yet even larger. It wasn't until just recently that scientists believed that life had to be carbon based. Now they believe that isn't completely true. Then when one listened to physicists who now talk about and alternate universe, or two or more, things get a bit complicated.

But forget that, let's talk about the violence of our universe. Know what a Quasar is? If one of those happened to be aimed at our planet, we are history and there are plenty Quasars out there in our universe. Forget about that gang down the block, our own Sun could kill everyone of us in no times. And we are learning more and more each day about what could bring to a halt everything on Earth. Of course most of those things could happen as far off as five or six billion years from now, but there are many other things that are closer and could cause catastrophic ruin as we know it. But just stop and think what will happen when our galaxy collides with the Andromeda galaxy, and its coming.

Let's hope we find that worm hole before any real chaos happens. And you think Osama bin Ladin is a trouble maker.

very interesting subject. i watch a lot of science shows on the universe, alien technology, and most anything to with science. einstein died trying to come up (unsuccessfully) with a grand unified theory (gut) where he could wrap his noggin around general relativity, quantum mechanics and his belief in god. thus his quote "God does not play dice". i figure if einstein never figured it out i shouldn't feel too bad about not getting all of it. <g> i still like to watch and read different theories though. :)

I've always been fascicnated with stuff like this since I was old enough to read and some what comprehend science related subjects. Astronomy was always a favorite, when the Apollo missions where in full swing I had all the books and models of the rockets. Then I began to read science fiction novels, one of my favorite authors was Arthur C. Clarke, loved his stories. I can't help but think that we are just one of millions of intelligent life forms in the universe, after all, the possibilities are almost endless. One of my favorite shows is Ancient Aliens on the History Channel, I can't get enough of that show.

I'm pretty interested in the idea of how much we really don't know about the universe. I have believed for a while now that there are probably different life forms elsewhere in the universe. With how many times scientists have been wrong in the past, I take every thing they have to say with a grain of salt.

As far as the end of Earth, I have no clue as to when that will happen and can't imagine how worrying about it would change anything.

we aren't really all that smart. the earth is flat, the earth is the center of the universe, etc.... we make up for it by magnifying our importance. <g>

Yeah I find things like this very cool to think about. It just seems a little ****y to believe that with the size of the universe we are thee only living things in it. Not saying there are little green men out there but.......

I was thinking more about the end of Men In Black 2 (I think it was #2 anyway) when Tommy Lee Jones looks into a locker and reveals a whole different, and very tiny, world living in there.

Yep. It was 2, towards the middle...I almost forgot that part...but, didn't they also show them looking out of a locker into a much bigger world at the end of the movie?

I think so. I usually have a pretty good memory for stuff like that. But then, I thought it was at the end of the movie when he first opened the locker. So, my memory isn't a great source on this one.
