I just saw on the news in Texas that the speed limit there is being raised to 85MPH. Isn't that a little fast? I look for the number of accidents to increase.

I don't think so people drive that fast on highways anyway.

Is it statewide, or just certain areas? I know there is already a long stretch of I-10 through Crockett County where the speed limit is 80. It's out in the desert, with nothing but straight highway and wide open spaces.

Yeah I know but now if someone is running 85 and some people who don't run but like 60 it could create a mess.

I've always thought that highways should be broken down into 5 lanes each of a higher speed that you can change to to go faster. However it require a complete redesign of all highways and probably not work as well as it does in my head.

when I traveled across the country in 99, I think the interstate speed was 80 across most of South Dakota and Montana.

Probably there.

Don't expect to see it around DFW.

People drive 80 to 85 here all the time.It will just mean less speeding tickets.

I have a bigger problem with the slow drivers. I usually drive around 60mph on 70 (speed limit is 65). It's dangerous because some drivers go 40 mph and some drivers go 80... and the drivers going 40 don't stay in the right lane.
