Edwards Added To Weekly Program
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series driver Carl Edwards will join veteran motor sports broadcaster Steve Byrnes Thursday night at 8 p.m. on SPEED as the network brings back the popular weekly program The Chase is On, a half-hour look at the races that make up The Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Championship. “For me last year, Richmond was extremely intense,” said Edwards, driver of the No. 99 Office Depot Ford Fusion. “You don’t have another race next week to make up for any mistakes, so the guys on the bubble are feeling a lot of anxiety. They want this week over with … good or bad.”
Edwards, 12th in points but a long shot to make The Chase field, is quick to point out, he’d much rather be in the thick of things this week in Richmond. “There won’t be a single one of these shows that won’t be painful for me,” Edwards added. “I want, more than anything, to be in The Chase and racing for a championship, but maybe this show will be good therapy. It might give me a different perspective on points racing … I might even learn something.”
In addition to the season debut of The Chase is On, SPEED’s weekend coverage from Richmond International Raceway will include:
Dale Earnhardt Jr. as a guest on Trackside (Friday, 10 p.m. ET)
Jeff Burton joins SPEED as a panelist on NASCAR Live! (Saturday, Noon ET)
The new NASCAR RaceDay car will debut this week, with Kenny Wallace taking viewers on an in-depth ride around Richmond International Raceway (Saturday, 5 p.m. ET)
Wendy Venturini sits down with team owner Richard Childress for a NASCAR RaceDay “Real Deal” interview
NASCAR RaceDay also will offer special reports from Larry McReynolds, Jeff Hammond and Steve Byrnes from Richmond (Saturday )
John Roberts, Jimmy Spencer and Kenny Wallace wrap up the weekend from Richmond with NASCAR Victory Lane (Saturday, Midnight ET)
“SPEED is putting on the full-court press for Richmond,” said Chris Long, VP of Studio Production for SPEED. “As they set the field for The Chase, SPEED will have all the stories from the people making it happen. We are the only network this close to the NASCAR world for the entire season, so the fans feel a special connection to SPEED, and they expect a lot from us. They feel comfortable that we will deliver a special weekend … and we will.”(That's Racin')
