Speed To Cover Gatorade Duels
Officials with Speed say the network is planning 14 hours of coverage of the Gatorade Duels Nextel Cup races and other NASCAR events Feb. 15 at Daytona International Speedway. Speed will begin the day at 11 a.m. with "NASCAR Live!" and will continue with live coverage of the event at 2 p.m. EST.

As previously announced, Speed's Dave Despain will host coverage of the Duel 150s, which help determine the field for the Feb. 18 Daytona 500, with Mike Joy offering play-by-play and Darrell Waltrip, Larry McReynolds and Jeff Hammond providing analysis. Pit reporters will include Steve Byrnes, Dick Berggren, Krista Voda and Matt Yocum.

Other coverage will include "NASCAR Victory Lane," NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice and qualifying for the Chevy Silverado 250 and a special edition of "The Speed Report" at 8 p.m. EST.(Scene Daily)

:) Uhhhh, is that Dual 150's or Duel 150's ?? If Duel 150's, does that mean the combatants will use pistols, knives or some other method of weaponry ??

Do they mean Dual (meaning the number two, duece, dos ) 150's as in a pair race held annually in Daytona, Florida consisting of 150 miles each ?? :)

Just messin' with ya since it is snowing and freezing rain there isn't much for an old man to do on a day like today.. :)

Which name does not belong on this list

kelloggs, you must not have seen when MM went ballistic a few weeks back because Krista Voda was signed on as a pit reporter. He'd rather have Beth Ann Morganthau. As if she knows jack about cars or racing. All she knows is how to write the checks.

Beth Ann is a former boat racer from Miami and on most saturday nights during the 60s and 70s you could find walking around the pits or in the grandstand at Hialeah Speedway, She has been involved with running teams with people such as AJ Foyt and was the catalyst behind getting Robby Gordon to run the double at Indy and Charlotte. But yeah a side from over 40 years in racing she is an idiot next to Voda who had never attended a race untill a couple years ago .

Nice work BP open mouth insert foot .

So racing a boat qualifies her to be a pit reporter? Walking around the pits qualifies her? Besides do you really think she'd want to be a pit reporter? And, she would have to want to be a pit reporter. Does she?
I still don't see what you have against Voda. It's not like she's starting out at the top. She started with some of the fluff shows doing interviews and reporting news items. From there she moved to the pits. Even then she wasn't getting much face time. And, that is the measure of a reporter on TV; how much are they on screen.
No one, I repeat no one, comes out of the womb meeting your standards. All of us must learn our craft. She has been in sports reporting for some time and has expanded over to racing.
I suppose, according to you, Chris Myers shouldn't be doing football if he's going to be in the booth. Or, Jeff Hammond shouldn't be doing wrestling if he's going to remain involved in racing.
The short of it is you have an axe to grind against Voda and while she may not be perfect someone somewhere must think she's doing a passable job. They keep extending her contract...

BP what I said about Beth Ann was , it would be interesting to see her do a weekly piece for TV and no I dont think she would want to be a pit reporter . My point was Beth Ann is a very knowledgable woman and has a strong racing background unlike Voda . Just to address your question about what has boat racing got to do with car racing ? You would be surprised at the number of people that have a marine background that have crossed over to cars and vice versa . In some forms of car racing such as NHRA the amount of people that have a marine background is huge .

Back to Voda, if you notice everyone else on the brodcast team has a minimum of 20 + years background in racing except her . and what I said on the other thread was there are many many women with a strong background in racing they could have got such as Shawn Robinson , Tina Gordon , Deborah Renshaw , Kim Crosby , etc . But they were not looking for a knowledgable woman they were looking for a cutsie female and I think that should be offensive to most inteligent women .

As for your reference to Chris Meyers and football , I dont really follow football and cant comment on that but as far as Hammond doing wrestling I think you could get any carnival barker and have them do wrestling as wrestling is not a sport , atlest thats what Vince McMahon said during New Jersey gaming hearings a few years back.

Multi, I guess I can consider myself as a fairly intelligent female. I'm even fairly knowledgable in cars too, since my husband is a former drag racer and as a mechanic by trade for most of his life. I don't have a problem with the hiring of Krista Voda. Not one iota. There are several faces that get MORE airtime than she will that just irritate the heck out of me. Sometimes, you have to take the good and just ignore the bad. And, unless you have some inside track of everyone's resume that was submitted for her position and that there was someone more qualified............please do tell.

Majestyx I have read your posts on here and you seem very knowledgable so that would put you ahead of Voda for the position in my book . Thank god that their are several faces that get more air time then Voda or the telecast would be unwatchable . Something you may want to consider is as I pointed out every other member of the broadcast team has 20+ yrs in racing except Voda . Why would they drop the standard for which they hired the others by 90% to hire Voda ?

Do I have an inside track to Speeds hiring policys ? hardly . But their was a rumor going around last season that Kim Crosby was trying to land a job at Speed that I never paid attention to untill someone pointed out this message she had posted on her site .
Dec 1 2006
I am continuing to do everything I can to make that happen.
I would actually love to do the Speed Channel stuff too! Everyone who knows me KNOWS I love to have a microphone in my hand but usually its to sing..........or try to sing.
Thanks for checking back here every now and then!
And as always, when there is news, it will be HERE first! {quote Kim Crosby}

I have never been a fan of Crosbys driving talents but she was a drag racer for about 15 yrs and she was a driving instructor at the Buck Baker driving school and has run aome ARCA and Busch races so that would put her light years ahead of the air head Speed hired

You ask I tell.

uh i guess i was wrong . i would make an ugly lady. or actually just not that good looking in a dress.

...every other member of the broadcast team has 20+ yrs in racing...

And where were they 20 years ago. No experience trying to get their break in the business. Maybe you need to come down from that rarified air you seem to breathe alot and see how the real world lives.

I'm with maj on this one. Voda will annoy me a lot less than some others who will be yakking in my ear.

And let's not forget, standing in front of a camera, with a mike, talking to an unseen audience, and trying to give out information --- all the while with someone telling you things in your ear --- is not the easiest job in the world. Just because someone is knowledgeable about racing, doesn't make them a pro in front of a camera.

I listen selectively to the talking heads. I give them a chance to inform me --- if they don't perform, I don't hear them.

BP if your going to quote me would you mind atlest quoting a whole sentence ?

In 20 years Voda will be pushing 50 years old and lost her cutsie appeal ,she will be long gone from any NASCAR telecast and have been replaced by another bimbo .

Following your logic lets just cut to the chase and get a Britney or Paris look a like with no panties to do the Broadcast.

I would rather see Mshay in a dress

Ahem...TRL, how many of these "voices" do you usually hear? Do you need to have any of them translated or are they all in english? And finally, do you ever argue with them or just listen?

:) :) :) J/K

hehe, kat. I forgot all about my former sig! LOL

Oh, and Multi, does it make any difference that I am also a BLONDE??? :D

Of course you do know that I love blondes. Oh, and those brunettes are tops as well, and let's not forget those beautiful redheads. Hey, as I once heard an old man say, the female form is the most beautiful thing a man can ever see. I agree! You are all so lovely.

You are definitely a smoothe talker, CB. I'm sure that your Red loves it!

Keep it rolling off that silver tongue of yours! ;)

Absolutely, TRL. That job is a lot harder than being a faceless poster hiding behind an assumed name on a message board and pretending to know it all while Googling for the facts. :D

DAMNIT BUMPZTER !!!!!! Where do you come off posting crap like that ? :bounce:

Are you trying to stir the pot and insinuate there are posters here who would do such a thing ????? How ingeneous !!!!!! ;)
Why, reading posts dealing with racing could easily enlighten many to the "not so clever" ways others use a racing forum to diseminate defecation from a bull, produce less than simple fiction and in some cases, even try to lead readers to believe they, the posters, are destined for Peter Pan "stardust" style dreams in la la land.:D
BUT WAIT !!!!!!!! Along comes Bumpzter accusing and trying to strip away the facade and unmasking posters, like dancers at a masquerade ball.
Most posters already see through the frauds, pretenders and perpetrators diseminating massive amounts of bull defecation but some remain uninitiated to the game played, still believing tales of glory accompanied by massive quantities of information flooding the highways of internet travel.
But you Bumpzter, bring all this to the forefront and make accusations and offer revelations in an effort to identify demons of fraud !!!! :einstein:

Perhaps we should all take a few minutes and re-read posts on THIS forum to see if such chicanery exists here. :einstein:

Way to go, BUMPZTER !!!!!! YOU DA MAN !!!!!!

One man alone can be pretty dumb sometimes, but for real bona fide stupidity, there ain't nothin' can beat teamwork.
