at Sonoma Sunday. They asked Joe if it was a 'corporate move", and he said yeah since he gets a lot of help from the Red Bull guys, but he still didn't seem too happy about it.

So Joe is giving up his seat for Speed, how much money did that involve?

At least, unless he wrecks, Speed will try and run farther than the first pit stop.

Sounds like a good move to me. Let's face it there hasn't been much Speed in Joe's car in years. Prolly not since he left Hendrick.

This deal with Red Bull and Nemechek is one reason why I believe NA__AR could look at changing its qualifying procedure.

A suggestion:

Eliminate The Chosen 35, then...
Have two round of qualifications run this way:
Immediately after round one, have a thirty minute break. Give the slowest twelve qualifiers the option of standing on their original times or throwing them out and re-qualifying, either with the original car or their backup car. After this second round of qualifications the twelve fastest times, either from first or second round, start the race from the rear.

This would have given Speed a second chance to get in, which he probably easily could have, leaving both he and Joe in the field. This would give no preference to any team, and would everyone an equal chance at making the field (if you can't made it in tow tries, go home and try next week).

Why didn't Red Bull put its sticker on Nemechek? Normally when drivers swap rides like in this case, the the sponsor of the driver "leasing" the ride will take over sponsorship, especially on a blank car.

I say just go back to the old way and have 2 qualifying sessions.

I was wondering the same thing. Why lease the car if the sponsor isn't going to be on the car?

Yup. I totally agree with that, with two tweaks:
1. Dump the blatantly biased Chosen 35 Rule
2. Make them run TWO qualifying laps, using the total ET from both laps as qualification. No more "throwaway first laps and no more "get a great lap and quit."

People pay good, hard-earned money to get into the track to watch qualifications. Make it worth their expenditure.

Probably didnt move the Red Bull sponsorship over because of pre-aranged sponsorship aggreements with the #87 and not enough time to get the decals on the car anyway.

I like this idea.

I don't know about that, they have logos in the hauler. I have seen cars logoed up overnight.
