"I like Tony a lot. He's good for the sport," Spencer said. "You can't have guys with no emotions getting out of these cars."

"Darrell Waltrip, Richard Petty, Bobby Allison, Cale (Yarborough). They all had personalities. Today, some of the Winston Cup champions have been pretty boring in my eyes."

Agree? Disagree?

HB,
I agree that I like the personalities to be real, it's come down to corporate personalities being in the forefront as far as building or continuing the sport. It's a compramise in bringing in the cubic corporate cash to grow the sport, I hope it never completely takes over though, that would wipe out the sport as we know it.

Don't know.I have only seen 3 or 4 differant ones in the last few years.

Hmm, he's kinda right.

I think the Gordon's and the Johnson's may be good drivers etc but they're kinda stoic. I like guys like Tony, Todd, Rusty etc. Guys that speak up, guys that aren't afraid to miss a sponor's name while they cuss out someone that pissed em off.

Stewart is The Man. Before him was Cale Yarborough.

If Stewart wins it this year,he can thank the coach. He was on a road to self destruction a few weeks ago Paul.If my guy doesn't win I hope he gets it.I just hope the monster doesn't rear it's ugly head again, for his own sake. :)

Guess I have to disagree with you here pb. Tony wasn't on a road to self destruction. He was on the road be being destructed by his sponsor, NASCAR, and many of his fans. He's been reined in.......but, you can only keep a highly competitive person like him on a lash for so long. If gets into lock step with the politically correct idea of what a race car driver should be then, if he gets a championship this year, it will be his last.

Everyone one of those allegations of Tony's mistreating someone were blown way out of proportion......one even proved to be false all together. You alter his personality, you alter his ability to compete. I hope he goes back to being the Tony he is.

With all due respect,I did not intend to say he self inflicted it Wrangler,But it was on his menu.A lot could say the same about Kurt ,or Kevin.I agree that I like the spark there aggresiveness brings to the cup series. If this is taken away by the media,or Nascar themself, the sport will be just another controlled funtion for the media to get bored with.

Okay......looks like we are on the same page pb.:)

Wasn't there something somewhere on TV where A.J. Foyt talked about Tony Stewart in a similar fashion as Spencer did?

A.J. Foyt. Now there's another story.

People need personalities. Whether they are Mikey's goofiness or Stewart's anger. You can't have someone with no emotion in a race car. Hell, if I was in a car I would be pretty emotional.
