San Diego television sports anchor Ross Shimabuku has been suspended without pay after implying a sexist slur against NASCAR driver Danica Patrick in on-air comments last week.
The controversy began late last week when Patrick complained about female athletes being described as "sexy," when male athletes are not. "Is there any other word that you can use to describe me?" she asked. Shimabuku replied, “Oh, I've got a few words. Starts with a 'B' and it's not 'beautiful.’"
He called Patrick “a pretty girl" who makes “money in sponsorships because of it. But what's not attractive is that she's sexy and she knows it,” he said. “What she says and what she does are two totally different things. She always has a chip on her shoulder, trying to prove something.”
Shimabuku backtracked quickly after video of his comments went viral last week, saying, “I truly apologize to anyone who may have been offended by (my) comments. It was not meant to be an attack on Danica. I have worked with her before at Phoenix (International Raceway), and I think she’s great for the sport. I hope she does great this weekend at the Daytona 500.”
Fox 5 San Diego announced via Twitter that Shimabuku has been suspended for one week without pay.

My problem with this is his lack of honesty. His first comments were his true feelings and honestly I don't see anything wrong with this. Not at all. He should have stuck by his comments and challenged the station for suspending him. This is what our country is coming to? Too freaking P.C. if you ask me. Why can't we have some honesty?
 
One week WITHOUT PAY.They must be really pissed.Usually people are suspended WITH PAY.Oh yea a news reporter isn't a government job.Glad they announced it via Twitter.:rolleyes:

No offense to any women here, but if you act like one then maybe you are one. That could also go for guys too. I am a fan of Danica on the track, but it gets old that every time she wrecks it is someone else fault.

Well every wreck she was in this past weekend was someone else's fault.
 
Had he been working his own Twitter account or Blogging for someone like TMZ, OK. Be a jerk Call her a bitch. Whatever.

But when he was representing a TV station - especially a FOX affiliate - he should have known better.

He's obviously an idiot with many preconceptions and should be diciplined for his actions.

That ain't PC, that's just common decency and professionalism - which this poor bastard is obviously lacking in...
 
ok,what you do if a guy in you pressance said this to your g/f or wife? thats why he was suspended.
 
I'm glad his station suspended him, you just don't call a woman a bitch.

I dunno. If he used the C word, then things might start to fly that aren't meant to. Like curling irons and toasters. Just ask me, if it can be airborn I have achieved it. Mostly through using my incredibly big mouth to see how much of my foot i can get in when it comes to talking to my wife.

It sucks trying to run away from missle like metal objects with one's foot in his mouth.

It's like a deer in headlights man. The whole time my firends laugh at me. and then.......

It's like a car accident happening in front of you at 60 frames per second.

But, I just plow it right into the wall.
