It would seem that determining what is and what is not acceptable in springs is tougher than one would think.

AVONDALE, Ariz. -- Brian Vickers had a pretty good day going until his post-qualifying inspection.

Vickers, driver of the No. 40 Victory Junction Gang Dodge, had put down a fast-enough lap at Phoenix International Raceway in qualifying on Thursday to qualify fourth. However, while rolling through the tech stations of NASCAR, it was discovered that the car had two illegal front springs.

NASCAR rules state the springs coils need to be evenly spaced. According to NASCAR that "All coils must be evenly spaced after the first coil on the on the closed end of the spring."

Vickers was placed 39th in the 43-car field. The team was charged a provisional, as well.

This comes one week after Mark Martin was docked 25 championship points after his left-front spring was found to be illegal after finishing second at North Carolina Speedway. It's the fifth time this year illegal springs have been found on a Busch Series team..

For Vickers, fourth would have been his best start since Dover in September.

Well people have been screaming all season long for NASCAR to be consistant..........I figure by next year all teams will be paying very close attention to every part, component and item even close to the car. Looks like NASCAR ain't kidding......get it right or suffer the consequences. Guess that's been coming for a long time though.:)

Da Rulz is Da Rules.....play em across the board or don't play em at all
