Walt Disney Co. is buying Lucasfilm in a $4 billion deal that brings the best-selling "Star Wars" franchise under the Disney umbrella, with plans to release Episode 7 of the long-running saga in 2015.
Disney has long had a close relationship with closely held Lucasfilm and founder George Lucas, including featured attractions at Disney theme parks such as Star Tours at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida.
"It's now time for me to pass 'Star Wars' on to a new generation of filmmakers," said Lucas, 68, in a statement.
The cash and stock deal is valued at about $4.05 billion, Disney said. Lucasfilm is solely owned by George Lucas.

I dont think its a bad idea per say. Episode III was the 2nd best of the 7 Star Wars films and the Clone Wars tv series is exceptional. With a good director and producer, this next trilogy could be quite good.

Didn't you mean Episode IV was the second best of the six Star Wars films? The prequel trilogy was not that good. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good either.

1. Empire Strikes Back
2. Revenge of the Sith
3. A New Hope
4. Return of the Jedi
5. Attack of the Clones
6. Clone Wars movie
7. Phantom Menace

The original 3 movies I still love to watch, the new 3 that were made I cant even classify them as the same. Wooden acting, over abundance of special effects and lightsaber duels where guys are flipping all over the place. Empire Strikes Back was my faviorate of all the Star War movies and Attack of the clones was one of the most god awful movies ever.

The Anakin-Obi Wan duel in episode III was epic.

What I always found strange was that Hayden Christiansen is generally thought of as a pretty damn good actor in every other project he has been in. Not sure what was the deal in the prequels, whether it was the directing or script or what.
 
I liked episode 3. Anakin was past his annoying angsty teen days and onto waging a war with himself, which in many ways I can relate to. I've fought with myself over some demons like that. Much more emotional a film than any of the other Star Warses. Or, at least, to me. The effects didn't distract me from the story. And I think with a fresh take on it, it could instill a whole new generation of interest in sci-fi. Like the Star Trek reboot.

The plot in Episode III was great but I could've done without the poor acting. Natalie Portman completely forgot how to act in the prequel movies. The excessive use of special effects took away from it for me. It was overdone.
 
My son, for Christmas last year, go the whole set (both trilogies) on blu-ray. He still lives at home. I think I need to watch them. I did watch Star Wars (you know, the first one, now title Episode IV) last year, and it was EPIC on blu-ray. I think it's time for a marathon.
 
i am ok with disney taking charge of lucus films and the star wars franchise. they havent hurt the marvel franchise and movies. in fact they are doing an awesome job with the marvel movies and shows.
 
Cant really say that as they havent had a true Marvel release. The Avengers was done before Disney bought Marvel. Spider-Man was a Sony production.

Disney bought Marvel back in 2009. All the Iron man, Captain America, Thor, (new) Hulk, and Avengers movie have been under the Marvel/Disney banner. Spiderman is Sony and X-Men and Fantastic Four belong to FOX. Marvel/Disney just got the rights back to Daredevil in exchange FOX gets to hold onto the Fantasic Four rights a bit longer.
 
No. The deal was in place, but no Marvel film has been released through Disney. The entire Marvel Cinematic Universe was a co-production by Marvel and Paramount except Hulk, which was a Marvel/Universal production. Iron Man 3 will be the first Marvel film that Disney has distributed without Paramount's involvement. The Avengers was the first Marvel film distributed by Disney, but that was worldwide while Paramount still handled the US market.

While I understand what you are saying the fact remains that Marvel is owned by Disney. Has been since 2009. While Disney has a whole did not distribute the movies they still had a hand in the by being the parent company of Marvel Entertainment. Disney has said that once the prior deals expire they will take control of the fully distributing the movies.
 
I'd like to see Disney make a Muppet Spiderman fight with a lightsabre on Monday Night Football. They have the power:puffin:

Them being the parent company of Marvel is all they had. They were still Paramount/Universel/Marvel productions. Disney didnt distribute or have a hand in the filming. Iron Man 1 and 2 and the Hulk were released before Marvel was even purchased by Disney btw.
