Stay Put Until Status Changes

Seems NASCAR has advised all the teams to delay their departure for Dover until further notice. Plans are to still get the races in on Saturday and Sunday, but such things as practice and qualifying may be canceled. NASCAR has reportedly advised the teams that they will advise of them of the revamped schedule for arrival and tech ASAP.

The Speedway also advise fans not to travel to the speedway before Saturday unless the storm track changes. Fans with RV's already in place are advised to remove them no later than tomorrow afternoon, but it is not mandatory. No evacuation of the RV areas is currently planned though admission to those areas may not be allowed until Saturday for those not yet in place.

NASCAR has canceled qualifying for the Busch and Winston Cup events at Dover International Speedway as part of a contingency plan implemented due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Isabel.

I talked to Chairman of Dover Speedway and he said that Qualifying and Busch North Series Race is cancelled for this week. All the Transporters leaves North Carolina to head to dover on Friday Afternoon and evening for the race weekend. Dover Speedway officals said Saturday and Sunday will be on since the hurricane would be 600 miles north of Dover, Delaware........ They Busch Grand National Race might be delayed an hour so everyone can get setup their Sovinour Rigs and the Busch and Cup Transporter Drivers can get their quipement setup for the weekend

If there was going to be all this confusion, then the Dover race shouldve been postponed just like Loudon was in 2001 after the attacks.

You are right about that!

Haulers coming in late Friday night and then you are going to have campers, show car and display trailers as well as hospitality food, supplies, and workers all coming in on Saturday morning! Saturday is going to be a bitch.... I can just see it now.

I have hospitality to do on Saturday and who knows what time I will have to get up in order to get there in time and not get stuck in traffic.

I get the feeling that this will be another cluster .... !

But I can also see Nascar's reasoning...... A November race at Dover will be anti-climatic seeing that the championship will already be decided by then. Plus, the weather factor in November can be a problem. And all of those fans that bought tickets for this weekend and wouldn't be able to reschedule. The races will go on but it won't be much fun for the workers and in some cases, the fans.

ya mean these werent problems for the people who had tickets to newhamphsire that weekend?

If you've never waited out the rain sitting on wooden bleachers picking soggy splinters out yer backside you just haven't lived :D

Seriously, entering a Motorhome Float Race or taking an unscheduled flight in an experimental aircraft might not be a lot of fun. Living in the desert we deal with torrential downpours and flash flooding yearly. One area of northern Las Vegas got almost 4 inches of rain last month in less than an hour. It's no fun at all.

The differences between this situation and that of 9/11 are so obvious and so huge......no comment.

And the rains will likely not be fun, plus having fans or teams travel through the storm on Thursday or sit through it at the track would be foolhardy. Not mention there may be no flights for many fans to use.

As far the teams go, the last I know the Busch teams will still enter the garage area on Friday starting around 11 AM. WC teams will start pulling in around 5 PM. With practice scheduled for like 8 AM on Saturday for the Busch teams they have to start inspections before Saturday morning when both WC and Busch teams will have to get through tech.

The starting times of both races will remain as scheduled as long the current weather prediction holds.

I cant really think of a working solution myself, but NASCAR will probably be willing to call the race a bit early for this one.

You are so right. There isn't any comparing the 2 events...

I can understand why the transporters can't be moving through the storm, but heck...unload and fire up the race cars, get a police escort and lets run them up route 1 at a 150 mph!!! Remember the old days when guys drove to the track what they raced?

Never said that they weren't.

As HS said, 9/11 was a different situation.
