But do they open at midnight or something ridiculous the "day" after?

Haven't be able to find anything about when they open on Friday, but at least they aren't opening at 6 PM on Thanksgiving Day --- like some places.

True. It's nice to see big corporations showing some regard for their employees.

Not Walgreens...they are open all the time! In fact, they are possibly the only store open on Christmas. I bet they'd stay open on The Purge as well...

I have been thankful that Walgreens was open in the past ---- was in desperate need of an antihistamine when my husband couldn't breathe.

I can understand a drug store staying open.

It's weird though, all the Walgreens are open, but the pharmacy is typically closed except for the 24 hour locations. I'm sure they make bank though on Christmas eve once Walmart closes.

Pier 1 Imports and RadioShack are based in Fort Worth, and GameStop is based in a suburb of Fort Worth. :)

My dad took me to Walgreens on Christmas day when I was a child about a decade ago to buy a mini-fridge that I wanted for my bedroom. :puffin: :dpepsi:

Note: Thanksgiving is a holiday that was proclaimed by a President that was not even in charge of the entire nation when he proclaimed it. Yes, Abraham Lincoln (who was pretty good at proclaiming things in wartime that he wasn't in charge of) gave us Thanksgiving. Folks from Europe had already had holidays like this for centuries to celebrated the success of the harvest...and at various dates...depending on where they were (climate-wise)...

Yay for being mad about making proclamations against people illegally rebelling!

When I was young Walgreens was the only store's allowed to stay open in a lot of places on Sunday's and holiday's so people could buy medicine and milk. Yes Walgreens sold milk and bread.

Many CVS stores here are open 24/7 and that includes the pharmacy in most.

I'll just remind everyone that EVERY hotel is open with full staff on Thanksgiving. So is every hospital, fire dept, police station ....

Walmart does nothing that it's customers don't want. If they're open ... it's because customers want them to be.

Very true, Prof. I think what we're getting at is that opening a "commercial" business on Thanksgiving is a bit much.
I don't buy on Thanksgiving and will not buy on Black Friday, either. And yes, WM does what it's customers want ---

If you're going to moderate me ... the missus says you have to use the padded handcuffs this time.

I bring this up to make a point tho. Everyone freaks out that retail outlets are open of Thanksgiving .... but they're also open Sunday. Walmarts in most places are open 24h. I recall well store hours being mon-wed 10-6, thurs and Friday 10-9 and Saturday 9-5. Closed sunday. Now, the local depanneurs (corner store) all about me have closed. No point when the major grocery stores are now 8am-10pm all week. Some even to 11pm. Box stores are 8am-9pm mon-fri, 8-5 weekends. At least Quebec is still refusing Walmart permission to go 24h. But where's the outrage over that?

Thats what America is all about :D

Did you have to barter away a wool blanket for them back then? :D

New England and it's "blue" laws. Growing up no retail stores were open on Sunday, except the churches. It's only been the past 5 or 6 years that the laws changed so liquor stores could open on Sunday but with shorter hours. Car dealers are now open, even Tasca who fought it tooth and nail to remain closed.
Only thing I can think of that's now closed on Sunday is barbers, banks,[not counting ATM's] and the post office.
When my son was at Sports Authority he went through the 4am opening a couple of times.

There are a lot of places that are open all day on Thanksgiving now. And on Christmas. Four years ago, when I worked retail, I didn't like it because I didn't get to see my family. Now that I've become distanced from them, I'd have no problem working either day.

When I lived in St. Charles (Maryland, not Missouri), EVERYTHING by my house was open on Christmas.

Again, thing to keep in mind, not everyone has family or can see them during the holidays and wouldn't mind working.

I know several people that look forward to any holiday for the overtime. A couple of them get double time and one get's triple time.

Where I worked, everyone who worked Thanksgiving and Christmas volunteered. I volunteered to work Christmas and was supposed to get Christmas Eve off. Ended up with a 10 hour shift Christmas Eve (11am-8pm) and Christmas Day (8am-5pm). I was ****** pissed. I "adjusted" my own schedule and went in early on Christmas Day so I could leave early and get down to St. Charles.

Now, I don't give a ****. My family doesn't even care enough to send me a wedding invite or even a notice or anything when someone gets married.

I work for an airline ....we are 24/7

I have worked every Chistmas day in the last 10 years, bar one.

I don't mind it at all. Double dollar and another day off in lieu.
