Stereotypes Die Hard in the World of NASCAR

Amen to that article. I really hate stereotyping, I grew up in Central California and never had any kind of negative thought about Hispanics. It wasn't until I moved to Kentucky that I realized Mexicans are such a hated people. Pace Burro? Ridiculous. That Busch race was nothing but a class act. The racing may have been a little caution filled, but it was by far one of the best events I've seen on TV, so many fans at a Busch race and so proud of their countrymen that they cheered them all, no matter what kind of car they drove or who they drove it for.

Sorry, I have about as much use for this article as I do for the ones he is referring to. Poor me. Get over it. The race was great, the people were great, and so it goes. I love visiting the country of Mexico and plan on doing so many more times in my life. But, I don't like it when someone begins to whine about how someone else is treating them. Good Lord, does the writer ever think about how the big press feels about us Southern folk? I doubt it because he is probably so busy feeling sorry for himself.

This article smacks of PC which runs rampant in the US, which tells me that it's spreading out into the rest of the world. What a shame.

Get over it, overcome it and prevail. You have plenty of amigos here in the US.

that's all fine and true about having friends in the US, but you mention how the Media portrays "southern folk", so you would think that the NASCAR media bandwagon, composed of said "folk" would understand what it's like to be trivialized in the media and would take care to not do the same thing.

Way too many people in this country have way thin of skins. Everyone whines now days about being offended. I second Buck's suggestion.......get the heck over it!! Move on with your life and quit the complaining all the time..........it bores most and offends me!! Guess I should start whining about that, huh?

He's an idiot. But, beyond that don't expect NASCAR to come to the rescue of its Southern roots and fans. That's not PC and they are trying to establish themselves in other parts of the nation. So if making fun of its Southern heritage gets it over they so be it.

I read every word of it and I see no truthful meaning to his rant. Just a Hodge-podge of words.
Sure everyone in the world has stereotypes of the "other" folks! In almost all cases it is meant in fun.. The cartoons in newspapers around the world depict "others" in stereotypical form.. It means nothing in the overall scope of things..
What about the cartoon of the southern gentleman laying in the grass with his head propped up against a tree with his moonshine jug at his side.. THAT is a stereotype! Do we object? NO, and very few others do from their stereotypes either.
