Sprint car legend Steve Kinser announces retirement

At Lebanon Valley Speedway, the legend announced the end of his professional racing career, saying it will "likely" be his final race.

The 62-year old leaves behind an incredible legacy with 20 World of Outlaws titles and nearly 600 Feature wins.

In a career that spanned five different decades. 'King' Kinser became a 12-time winner of the Knoxville Nationals and seven-time winner of the Kings Royal...

In 2008, he made ESPN's list for the top 25 race car drivers of all-time.

Recently, Richard Petty was asked the question, Assuming you are one of them, who belongs on the Mount Rushmore of American racers. Petty responded with AJ Foyt and Mario Andretti, then a long thoughtful pause, then said David Pearson. A good answer. But a strong case can be made for Steve Kinser in the last spot, IMO. (Also, a very strong case for Kenny Roberts, unless the question is specifically about automobile racers.)
