Park to the Truck Series? hearing Steve Park is under consideration for the #62 Truck Series ride that Brendan Gaughan is supposedly leaving to take the #77 ride. Supposedly Park was up for the 2nd Bill Davis Racing Truck Series ride that will go to Bill Lester.(12-17-2003)

That would be a great ride for Steve if he could get it, #29 still needs a driver, but I think they're also sponsorless.

Gaughan says Orleans Racing to expand

Orleans Racing, which has fielded the No. 62 Dodge for NASCAR Craftsman Truck series star Brendan Gaughan the past two seasons, will return in 2004 and in a much-expanded fashion.

Sources have confirmed Gaughan and his Truck series crew chief, Shane Wilson, are moving to the Nextel Cup Series next season with the yet-to-be-announced Penske Racing/Jasper Motorsports team.

However, Gaughan said Saturday whatever his future may entail, it would not affect his current team, which is owned by his father, Michael Gaughan, and based in Las Vegas.

"This is going to be one of the best organizations in the series," Gaughan said, reached by phone. "We have a sponsor signed and in place for the No. 62 and we may have the possibility of a second team next year.

"There are a lot of exciting things going to come out in the next few days."

Regarding his own future, Gaughan would only say he had not signed any contract to drive in Cup, but he said the Truck team was well-prepared for the possibility of him not driving the No. 62.

In addition to at least one full-time Truck team next season, Orleans Racing plans to field an entry for driver Scott Lynch in the NASCAR Grand National Division, West series, formerly known as the Winston West series.

Lynch won the series title this season as a rookie, handing Dodge its first championship in the division since 1976. Lynch may also run some Truck races in 2004.

Gaughan said announcements regarding the Truck team, including the No. 62's sponsor for next season, were expected soon.

Gaughan, 28, won six races and led the points entering the final race of the season. An untimely accident in the season finale at Homestead, Fla., relegated him to fourth. He is also a two-time Winston West champion.

Steve Park will do quite well in the truck series and I for one look for him to be a threat to win the truck series championship.

Steve had a couple of things against him in the premier series of NASCAR.

First, his dismissal from DEI took a lot of his self confidence even though it was justified.
Secondly, it seems there are some guys who are stars in thier own right in the Busch or Craftsman Truck series yet have a two or three one-thousandths of a second reaction time delay, and this reaction time is so critical between being a successful WCS driver and a good Busch or Craftsman Truck series driver.

Steve needs a series where driver pressure will be less and he can regain his skills and confidence level. The Craftsman Truck Series will afford Park that luxury.

For right now, it is the best series for him to be in. Don't be surprised when you see him kicking butt and taking names.

I think Whizzer hit the nail on the head. Alot of guys who aren't good in cup cars, do decent in the trucks. There probably is something to the reaction time theory.

Another thought: There aren't as many good drivers from top to bottom in the truck series, it would be fairly easy for a cup veteran to finish near the top most of the time. The good young drivers move up quick, so a cup veteran can make a pretty good living hanging around in the truck series. A good example in the Busch series would be Randy LaJoie.

I agree with Whizzer and Hawk. It will be GREAT to see Steve racing again!

It looks like Steve has some pretty stiff competition for the ride, Truckseries.com says he and Johnny Benson are the two being considered for the ride. They also Say Shawn Parker will be the new crew chief.

Trucks is a good place for Steve to build that confidence back up. So I hope he ends up there. But as far as Lester I interviewd him the other day and he says he has been in contact with many teams and may also run a handful of Busch Races. I belive that he will end up at Bill Davis Racing that was reported more than likely a few weeks ago, but he did not mention it in the interview.

The full interview is posted on the site in my signature.

To be honest, Steve got the **** end of the stick at both DEI and RCR. Everybody knows the #1 and the #30 aren't stacked up as well as other team cars, so I hope Steve goes to the Truck series and wins 'em all! Steve CAN get the job done!

I think Steve will do very well in the Truck Series and hope he can make a strong comeback into Cup in the near future.

I agree, I think a year in trucks could be the best thing for Steve...it would allow him to rebuild both his confidence and reaction time. I hope it works out for him - seems like a bit of a moving target over there, but with a little luck...:)

I am going to start off by saying right up front that i do like Steve park.
His accident was truly unfortunate and ill-timed for his career in racing.
I just wish he could have taken heed and learned from Ricky Craven about
coming back too soon. Now we have another driver that is wisely using his brains for something other
that a helmet rack and not trying to come back too soon after that kind of injury. (Jerry Nadeau)
As far as the no. 1 and 30 cars are concerned, it mostly wasn't the cars. It was the wrecks that Steve got into. Not all his fault, assuradly, but they happened. Didn't help his posture as a driver any.
Unfortunately, in racing, as in any business, results count! And they just were not there.
Soooooooooo, I wish him luck in landing a ride in CTS, and hope his skills and past experience
will serve him well. Would like nothing better than to see him "come back".

I, for one, do not know that the # 1 and # 30 cars were not stacked up as well as the other team cars.

Richard Childress said, the #30 car is and gets the same consideration as the other teams. The #1 car was a winner before Park suffered his injuries. So who to beleive ???

As for the crappy end of the stick, neither Park nor Green were producing satisfactory results. Both the DEI and RCR teams were totally justified in releasing Park and Green.

If anyone takes the time to review the situation of Jeff Green and Steve Park, they will find Jeff Green does well in the Busch Series, but never really seemed to have the extra "edge" needed to be a winner or consistent top ten finisher in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, no matter what or who he drove for. Flashes of brilliance ?? Periodically. Inconsistent?? YES !!

Steve Park proved his ability in the #1 car for two years and won races for DEI. Until his accident. Since then, Park has not had the same results.

The facts speak volumes about this situation.

My prediction...............Green will do well for Petty and get three or four top tens, nothing spectacular, while Park in the truck series will kick butt and take names.

BTW ............................. :bounce: HAPPY NOO YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this works out well for Park, just as it did for Musgrave.

Jeff Green would have done fine if it his own teammate didn't wreck him out of the race every week!!
